Re: Do you live within your means?
I can honestly say that Dh and I are financially secure. We make sure we save and invests our money properly.
DH and I detest having debts so we make sure all our bills are taken care of. It is very bad to be in debt IMO.

Re: Do you live within your means?
We racked up a lot in college, but we're on our way to paying it off. We've about halved it in the last year. We should be just paying off student loans come october or november.

This is how we feel too. The only debt we carry is interest free, except our mortgage. Any debts we due have with the exception of mortgage and car are easily paid off with our savings if necessary.

Re: Do you live within your means?
We have racked up debt but now are trying to pay it off. We are going to take out a heloc, save some money from that to pay for things that we have charged in the past. It's really hard with 2 kids and not a large income-lol!!

I feel like we're somewhere between we save alot each month and financially secure. I feel like we should invest more than we do.

Re: Do you live within your means?
We are doing pretty well. We are debit free except for the House.
We are trying to save money but its been really tough because we are working on the house (new kitchen and bathrooms and new windows). So finding money to put in the bank is difficult.

Re: Do you live within your means?
DH & I are financially secure. Neither one of us has every been in debt & we do everything in our power to pay all our monthly bills off in full. If that means we don't have as much spending money for a week, so be it. Before we purchased our home, we made it a point to know we could afford to do so without worrying...Sacrafices are made, but we are willing to do it for what we have...
For us, debt is just a No-No.

Re: Do you live within your means?
We try and live on my salary alone and save all of DH's salary. We're saving to buy a house soon. We are paying off the CC's this month ( ) and now we'll just have his enormous student loan to pay off for the next 20 years.

Yup, we live on DH's salary and bank mine (and pay off my student loan, but I have 20 years to do that).

Re: Do you live within your means?
Dh & I live off of his salary and bank mine. The only 'debt' we have is a very small student loan (under $4,000 I believe). We have no car payments - actually we just decided to lease a car for me after sharing one car for over a year and banking those extra savings.
We do not live frugally, but we do save wherever we can.

Re: Do you live within your means?
i am still paying off a college loan, but that is the best kind of debt to have. i also have my car payment, but again, that isn't really "bad" debt because i am able to drive a nice car.
otherwise i never keep credit card debt - i barely use them.
i save whatever i can each month.

Re: Do you live within your means?
i would say we do... the only debt we have is my student loan ( which i have PLENTY of time to pay off) and my car ( which isn't anything more than we can afford). we also bank a lot of DHs salary... hes putting i think 20% of his salary into a retirement account, so that is a nice chunk. i do think we spend frivolously sometimes ( starbucks everynight, out to eat a few nights a week, Dh goes out to lunch everyday), but we are still managing to save a lot, so i think its fine for now...
ETA: we have no credit card debt, either- we always pay them off every month.

Same here! I can't stand ever having a balance on my credit card and I usually check it online and end up paying it off before the bill ever comes!

Re: Do you live within your means?
right now DH and I live basically check to check, but in the past 4 years we have gotten rid of over 10K in debt (mainly loans and credit card debt). By this time next year, we will no longer have a car payment and 2 of our 3 credit cards will be paid off. This will allow us to bank a little bit.

Re: Do you live within your means?
I have no debt now, but I am older than many on the board. The only debt I ever had was student loans and a car loan.
Even when I was younger and not making much money, I didn't carry CC debt. It is a dangerous cycle to get caught up in. If I can't afford it, I don't buy it. Period.

Re: Do you live within your means?
Besides our mortgage, the only debts we have are our law school loans (which are substantial) and a car loan.
While our law school loans are substantial, we pay considerably more than our minimum each month.
We definitely live within our means and do not taking on any unnecessary debt.
