Do you need a pack n play/playpen? Are you getting one?

We are trying to conserve space in our home and would like to avoid clutter if possible.

Are you getting a pack n play or playpen? Where in the house do you plan on putting it?

I think I read that babies hate being in them.

First, Im sure SOME babies Dont like them. My niece and nephew LOVED it. I gues you wont know until you try it.

Anyhoo. We have one, it is going in our living room, so I can keep an eye on him when Im doing my own thing. Once we move, it will be downstairs, and his crib upstairs. Much easier than going up an down all day with an infant.

Re: Do you need a pack n play/playpen? Are you getting one?

It was a total necessity in my house. When DS was a few month old, it was the only way for me to put him in a safe place to get things done in the house, even taking a shower. He played in his PNP for many months. I retired it when he was 1 year old.

Sometimes there things that need to be done and you need the baby in a safe place.

His crib is not associated with play time so I never put him in his crib if I had things to do. Crib is sleep time only.

I got it for dd so we would have something for her to go in when we went to other people's houses - we used it maybe once while we were out. We now use it only for the changing table on the top.

I have the same concerns about conserving space because my living room is kind of on the small side. One of my friends recommended these gates from BRU. I put it on my registry, but I can't remember the name. Basically, it comes with a set of gates (I think 6?) that you can put together to make any shape of a play yard. You can also make it smaller by using less gates. She said she bought a rug for it and she said it took up less space and it was easy to take down when it wasn't in use. Her daughter still loves it and she's almost two.

Are you talking about the Superyard? It's an exagon type shape when put together? I have this. But you can only use on carpet or rug. Otherwise, DC can drag it across the room.

Same thing here!! And up in our room we had a playpen that he used until he was way over a yr old. That is where he went when I took a shower, etc.

He loved sleeping in them. He still sleeps in one when we go to my parents or on vacation.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the name of it. She did say that she uses it on a rug. Maybe I will have to get a playpen when the baby gets older...

Re: Do you need a pack n play/playpen? Are you getting one?

I put one on our registry just because it's such a popular item, but I do not plan on using one in our apt. My mom already has one, and I think my dad has a play pen-- and my MIL is planning on getting a crib eventually.

I figured we can return it if someone buys it for us, and get one in the future when we need it.

We're in a one bedroom apt so for us it's not necessary at all and my mom already has one at her house for my nephew. We did though register for the Baby Bjorn travel crib. It's more expensive so it's doubtful we'll get it, but I really don't care either way as it would only be for if we went away (which I don't see happening anytime soon) and the bjorn one folds up easier and flatter than the PNP so it's better for us storage-wise until we actually need it.

I have a large muliti/level house and the pack and play will be VERY handy. Also, the baby will need a place to sleep when we come home from the hospital, as I won't have the crib delivered until we are home.

We have a ranch, so although we did get one at everyone's urging, 11 months later its still in the box, in the basement.

I think if you live in an apt or 1 level home, you can do without it!

I think this is why we never used it. We live in a cape with our bedroom and the baby's on the first floor- so it's almost like we live in a ranch.
