Do you say goodbye to your boss at the end of each day?

Just wondering because I do but it ends up eating into the few minutes I have to get to Penn and to my son at daycare. I tried to be firm about a quick good-bye but it never works. She always ends up talking to me either about personal stuff or work stuff that we seriously could have discussed earlier.

Not mention that I have caught her looking at the clock as if to purposely keep me later.

I voted depends b/c i usually walk out with her. but if she on the phone or in a meeting, i'd never wait for her.

I used to when I first started in this position. Now he leaves before I do, sometimes he says good-bye and sometimes I think he's just got too much going on in his head that he forgets. It's just a quick "have a good night" as he walks out the door, no time for chatting.

The same thing happens to me sometimes. I don't have a DS or DD in daycare to get to though. Perhaps you should make it a point to stop in at 4:00 and just ask her if there's anything she'd like to discuss before the end of the day?

In my office, everyone says hello and goodbye. but my boss usually leaves before I do and pops in with a quick "are you ok with everything, need any help? Ok have a good night, see ya tomorrow"
I hate people who start a conversation as I'm saying "Have a goodnight"

I voted no, not since I got a new boss. But he sometimes prints reports to my printer and if he's doing that when I am getting ready to shut down, I'll ask him if he still needs to print.

With my old boss, we used to chat after hours quite a bit. There were no disruptions and we were both sort of unwinding, venting, updating what's been going on.

He typically leaves before me and will say goodnight. On the rare occasion I leave first I always say bye.

I want to basically put a stop to it so I was thinking of slowly stopping the goodbyes and just leaving when I have to. DH gave me a good idea...I know she is going to ask why and he said to reply with a friendly "oh, did you need something?" I am sure it'll take more than that but it's a good start.

When she is on the phone I usually try to wave goodbye but she either puts her call on hold or actually ignores me but since I know she saw me I feel obligated to wait to at least get the wave in.

My boss is generally gone before me, but I'm also on a different floor than him, so my answer would be no

As a general rule, if they are here after I leave, yes. But mostly b/c I work in the front office, so I like to let them know to listen for the door if someone comes in after I leave.

Or, if they want to me to lock the door, they usually tell me then. They are not big chit-chatters, so it's a quick - "Have a good night."

depends - she leaves earlier than i do some days, so if she is there when i sign out, i say a quick good bye, if not, i don't, unless i see her in the hallway.

I usually stop by a half hour before I leave, and say oh, just checking in...That gives him time to kill 15 minutes talking to me without me having to leave later! Then as I walk out, I say, oh, if I don't see you, have a good night.

I really don't -- but it depends, sometimes if we are working on something I will feel compelled. But, she is on the opposite end of the hall so I would have to go out of my way.

She doesn't say goodbye to me when she leaves.

I think you definitely need to start once in a while of just leaving -- and then it'll become a habit.

I work very closely with my boss and co workers - we are all in one room. So as I leave I say "good night" to who ever is still here. We chit chat a lot through out the day, so there is no reason do it as I am saying good night.

He has usually left by the time I leave, so usually no. But I say "bye" to our team in general when I am leaving.

I am out the door at 5:28. I've even left mid sentence. Sorry, I have a baby to go see. My bosses have gotten used to it. Before I had DS, I would stay late all the time. Now, I tell them to email me and I'll do it when I get home

Where's the choice for suck-ups who never leave before their boss?

If I see someone leaving at night, or coming in in the morning, I say hi or goodbye, be it my boss or anyone else. We have a very friendly office and I like that.

Edited because I didn't read the whole OP. Sometimes we get stuck talking to people at the end of the night - usually the night crew, who get in about an hour before we leave. We talk shop with them and chat and sometimes I'd love to just leave. But the boss is gone before me, so there's no getting stuck in conversations.

My boss always says to me "Thanks for coming" every day. Its very funny. and we laugh. She is a lovely girl

If he's around, I say good-bye. I don't seek him out to say good-bye though.
