Do you send thank you cards after your child's birthday party?

Just wondering if not sending them is the new normal? We've been to soooo many parties since my DD started school last year, and have only ever received 1 thank you card (which I just came across and prompted me to think about this). Do you send thank you cards?

I don't anymore. I did for years, but honestly, it was a pain in the butt and we never got them back. So I verbally thank everyone for coming and leave it at that. I do gave DS personally write them to older family members who wold be offended not to receive one.

No. I do make sure my child personally thanks the gift giver. To me thats more personal then a card which will be thrown out anyways.

We do. Everyone around here gives them out. I make my kids help me with them before they can play with the new toys. This way they are just done. For my 6 year old we purchased the prefill ones and he fills in the name, the item and his name. For DD I write them and she writes her name. Around here birthday parties seem to end at about age 7/8 (according to my friends with older children). This year some of the kids in my son's class are turning 7 and there have been far fewer birthday parties than in the past. Mostly now it is just invite a couple of good friends to do something with the birthday child. Rather than an all out birthday party like when the kids were really little.

Yes, but just for the kids/friends who came.

We don't do thank you notes to immediate family members.

But that's in general. They don't do them back to us either.

I have gotten notes from all but one pre k and 1st grade party this year and the K parties last year. It takes a while because the kids write them.

My DS just turned 5 in December - he is in 4 year old pre-K and this was his year having a "friends" birthday party out at a place. I always do send thank-you notes, because (i) he doesn't open the gifts at the parties, so a note seems a nice way to thank the gift-giver and acknowledge the gift, since it wasn't acknowledged at the time it was given, and (ii) at least half (if not more) of the kids (kids' parents) in our area seem to send thank you notes after birthday parties.

We usually do a separate family party/get-together at our house with pizza and cake and have aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc. I don't send thank yous to the family members for the gifts he gets at that party, because he opens the gifts in front of the giver and thanks them on the spot.

Yes, we always do. Id say we receive thank youd from about 1/2 the kids parties she goes to.

ALWAYS send for classmate party, pet peeve of mine if they are not sent

Family party, at this point we do not send since we open gifts in front of family

Yes, I always do but i feel like I am receiving them less and less from others.

ALWAYS.

It is a pet peeve of mine as well. I try to teach my kids someone took the time to get something for you and to come celebrate with you - you can take the time to say a proper thank you. Believe me they fight it...but I think it is a good lesson. Maybe it is just my old fashion side but it is how I grew up and not something I am looking to change.

Yes, I always send a thank you note. I'm surprised at how few people do still send thank you notes though. I think not sending a thank you note is rude but each to their own and it doesn't really bother me when I don't get one.

Yes, for the friend party always, and I would say we always get a thank you from parties we attend. I do not normally send to family though, except for distant family that send a gift and do not attend the family party.

I've been to two bday parties( nursery aged) and we didn't receive Ty cards. I really think it's the new norm, sadly.
