Do You Still Identify With The Religion You Were Raised As?
Just curious.
My mom is Lutheran and my dad was raised Catholic, but somewhere along his childhood turned agnostic.
I was raised Lutheran, but as I got older, I read more and more of my dad's biology books and became agnostic. My Grammy still doesn't know.
DH was Catholic growing up but joined my mom's church shorty after DD was born. I go to church with him and DD to see my Grammy on occasion, but it makes me uncomfortable.
Just wondering if anyone else had changed their ideas, and if so, does your family know and what do they think about it?

Re: Do You Still Identify With The Religion You Were Raised As?
Nope. Raised Catholic, realized at around 18 that I disagreed with about 95% of their beliefs...
I'm currently agnostic.

Re: Do You Still Identify With The Religion You Were Raised As?
Not sure if I fit. I'm an atheist, I was raised with very little religion, if any. My mom only labels herself as a Protestant - but has confessed that she is agnostic. My dad is atheist as well (but it never really came up during my childhood)

Re: Do You Still Identify With The Religion You Were Raised As?
I do and I don't.
I guess those who are practicing would consider me a "cafeteria catholic". I'm far from devout, I don't go to church or confession pretty much at all, but I do believe in God and the power of God.
I know when times are rough I pray. I've prayed to get through a situation. I've prayed for guidance, clarity, patients, you name it.
But am I the picture of a "practicing catholic"? No.
I'm pretty confilcted by this b/c while I do, at times get comfort from the church, I for the most part do not agree with their stance on most issues. But I was raised a catholic and so that's what I believe.
I apologize if this doesn't make much sense, I know I'm rambling.

Re: Do You Still Identify With The Religion You Were Raised As?
My goodness no...
I was raised catholic, making my communion/confirmation and taken to church every sunday while I was "under my parents roof", but it never felt right. It wasn't the right "fit" for me. I personally don't believe that one needs an organized religion to help them have a spiritual or moral compass in life. I am, and believe I always have been, agnostic. I don't personally believe in god, but I don't think that that means that he/she *can't* exist. I do believe that I may be wrong and perhaps god has simply not come into my life yet. Luckily, my DH has similar beliefs and we were married by a spiritual minister. She did an absolutely beautiful and personal ceremony that we helped design. We got sooooooo many compliments about our ceremony, including some diehard catholics. We are very blessed that our families are supportive of our choice.

Re: Do You Still Identify With The Religion You Were Raised As?
I was raised catholic & did all the 'stuff' through confirmation.
I get them confused, but I am I am an atheist or agnostic. I forget the difference and I am too lazy to google it.

Re: Do You Still Identify With The Religion You Were Raised As?
I was raised Catholic. Church on Sundays, prayers every night. I got too cool for it when I got my first job and only went to Church on Holidays for YEARS
Then, I started getting anxiety and panic attacks and I went back to the Church to look for some peace and I found it! Now I attend mass every Sunday and I pray constantly. I am looking for ways to become more involved with the Church.

Yes. DH and I were both raised in conservative Jewish families, and still consider ourselves conservative Jews. I am a little more observant than my parents.

I think being Jewish is something that sticks even if you aren't practicing - its almost like the pregnant man thing - he still has woman parts no matter how much he changes his outside!

Re: Do You Still Identify With The Religion You Were Raised As?
NO!!
My last straw was basicly being "told off" by the pastor of the church I was raised in. Yes thats riht the pastor. Makes me sick to think about it. If a priest can act the way he did...made me really rethink being a Catholic. (plus hearing abut all the abuse they overlook)

Re: Do You Still Identify With The Religion You Were Raised As?
My parents are not religious. I was baptized Episcopalian, but never attended church. As an adult I tried to be Catholic, so my husband, child and I could be the same religion. I never felt part of it, as if I got into too late in the came.
I feel like I missed out on something not really having religion in my life
