Re: Do You Still Identify With The Religion You Were Raised As?
NOT AT ALL
I question things and am a firm believer in not following what your parents believed but learning both sides to everything and forming your own opinion. I hope when it comes to relgion and other things I can teach my son the same thing.

YES....Raised Cathoilic and still practice although I need to get to mass more often. My faith has gotten me through some tough times this year.

I think being Jewish is something that sticks even if you aren't practicing - its almost like the pregnant man thing - he still has woman parts no matter how much he changes his outside!
Liza my dear, you nailed it. If you are born to a Jewish woman, you are Jewish forever. Even if you convert to Catholicism, Buddhism, Islam or anything else. As far as Judaism is concerned, you will always be a Jew. You would never have to convert back.
To answer the OP, yes I still identify with the religion in which I was raised. It has become increasingly more important to me as my faith is dying out and seriously decreasing in numbers. Though being a NYer, many people would never know or understand that.

NO!!
My last straw was basicly being "told off" by the pastor of the church I was raised in. Yes thats riht the pastor. Makes me sick to think about it. If a priest can act the way he did...made me really rethink being a Catholic. (plus hearing abut all the abuse they overlook)
Yeah... One of my many reasons was seeing my mother come out of a confessional crying because the priest had called her a terrible person, among other things, for getting a divorce. I didn't want to be a part of something that made someone I loved feel that way.

Re: Do You Still Identify With The Religion You Were Raised As?
It saddens me to hear that so many Catholics had such horrible experiences from some really nasty priests!
My parents raised me Catholic and that is what I am. I had wonderful experiences with the church growing up. I also taught in Catholci Schools for 10 years and had lovely experiences with the Priest there.
Even when going through IVF treatments, my friend who is a priest and baptized the twins told me that many times you have to seperate faith from "rules" The rules are archaic and need to change just as they did for Vatican Council II.
I will get back to church once the twins get older. I have faith that things will change over time!

Not sure if I fit. I'm an atheist, I was raised with very little religion, if any.
Same here. My mom is Jewish, my dad lutheran. I never did anything religious growing up. My parents felt no need to force me and my brother into a religion.
