Do you take things too personally?

I used to when I was younger but not anymore, unless I'm pms.
Is definitely part of my motto since not everything revolves around you.

Re: Do you take things too personally?

I do sometimes, but I try to realize that and be objective. My feelings get hurt easily though.

Sometimes I do! When I was younger, I always did. As I got older I grew a "backbone" and realized hey, this is me. If people dont like it, Oh well.
I tried so hard to "please people' when I was younger!

Re: Do you take things too personally?

My dh would say yes.

But I do, I can't help it. I wish I was a person who could just let things go when something is said but I sit and think about it.

Why would someone say something or do something if they didn't want me to take it personally?

That's what I wind up saying a lot to my DH when I get upset at something.

I'm getting better about it as I get older, but sometimes I slip, and overreact.

because there is a thing called constructive criticism...that people should be able to take without getting all upset about it

There is. But, sometimes people are just trying to vent or have a shoulder to cry on. So, for someone to provide "constructive criticism" at that time can be inappropriate.

I do take things personally, espcecially because I always try to be kind and diplomatic when delivering bad/negative news.

Re: Do you take things too personally?

I have to say, it depends who it is coming from, if it is a statement or something coming from a family member or friend, I most definately take it personally. Something from someone who doesn't know me - I don't give a S**%!Chat Icon
