Do you think its okay to say racial slurs in public????
apparently FBIL does! i've never been so embarassed/insulted before in my life!!! we went out to dinner last night and he decides that its finally okay to really be "himself" and let loose around me and DH. well, turns out he likes to use every racial slur in the book...out loud and in public!!!! you name it, he said it.
i politely said (trying to joke around so as not to cause friction or drama) "hey, lower your voice, someone might hear you!".
FBIL: i'm not racist cause i'm not scared to say it out loud. when people are scared to say it that means they're the one who have the REAL problem.
i just sat there in awe and disgust! i dont have a problem....what i have is called RESPECT!!!!
i really cant stand this guy anymore!!!!

What did the rest of the people with you do? Your FBIL sounds like a real winner....
IMHO- racial slurs are NEVER OK, in public or not..... And the reason I don't say them "out loud" is not because I'm a racist- it's because I'm NOT a racist....

For some reason your story reminded of an alcoholic old boyfriend. He would let "loose" when drunk. Loud, humiliating to be around.
It's never OK to make such remarks.

Hmmmmmn...I think this quote pretty much says it all as far as ignorance. How does his justification even make sense? I wouldn't want to be in his company for many reasons, the least of which is being in the middle of the beating (or worse) that he will receive one day from "not being a racist cause I'm not scared to say it out loud"

I would have called him an ignorant, white trash (is he white?) jack azz in public and out loud.
Also mention that he is balding (is he?) and getting a beer gut...say it loud and proud.
He needs a taste of his own medicine.
I would be hoping someone kicked his butt.
