I don't think it is for anyone to decide but the family.
BTW many working away from home mother's get manicures & pedi's all the time. It bother's me that people judge SAHM's on things like this. I am not even someone who gets manicures!

I don't think I'd go the daycare route if I needed a break. i would probably just get a sitter to come over for a few hours maybe twice a week, just so I can go out and run my errands in peace.

Re: Do you think it's right for a SAHM to send her child to
I think this is a very personal decision.
To me the original post came off as very resentful/bitter. Why are SAHMs held to such tough standards? They're not entitled to "me time" if they can make it happen? How would a working person like it if they were scorned for doing things like taking a break to get lunch or run errands, calling in sick, or taking a lower-paying, possibly p/t job in order to have more balance in life?
I'm a SAHM-- I wouldn't send my kid to f/t daycare because I quit my job specifically to BE the main childcare provider! But it's not fair to allow feelings of jealousy over her SAHMhood to influence the judgment of her.

I just may fall under this catergory-- sort of.... I am a WAHM- my husband and I have an eCommerce business on top of owning a small construction company. I run the eCommerce business during the day. I also have a 5 month old and a 2 year old. My 2 year old goes to daycare 2 days a week from 8-3-- We decided to put him in daycare for a few reasons---1. I don't really have any friends that live close- I just moved here from Ohio in early 2005-- so Gavin does not have any "friend' playmates. DD is just 5 months- so she isn't too fun to a 2 year old!! I feel like he should be socializing with other little guys--- 2. I use the time that he is in school to run errands for both our household and the businesses- It is easier to do that with just my DD in tow. I also use that time to spend on just business related things... We had hired a mothers helper 3 days a week before puting him into daycare-- but it just didn't work out.
I am a WAHM too. Both of my DD's go to daycare 5 days a week. They go on Mondays for a full day (I go into the office on that day) and the rest of the week from 9:30 - 3:30. I do it so that I can work, run errands.... or whatever I need to do.
