Do you think neighbors in wealthy areas would have issue with you having a rental in your house?

Houses in my area are not even close to the million dollar range for the most part, but I do know my neighbors have called the Town on other neighbors that rented out their basements.
I personally don't agree with doing it, nor would I feel comfortable having someone not related to me sharing my everyday private space, but that's just me. Can't say I'd call the town, but I'm not a sh** starter like many of my neighbors are.

ETA: schools will be overcrowed, LIRR would be packed, no parking
One of the things that bothers me the most is the tax implication of illegal apartments. You have children going to the schools, people using the library, trash pick up, and the other town services, but the taxes on that house are just single family...
I pay enough in taxes. I don't feel I should be subsidizing for those who don't feel they need to play by the same rules as the rest of us.
That said I've never encountered (so therefore never reported) an illegal apartment... I'm not sure what I would do if I became aware of one.

It's also a safey issue as well. An illegal apartment may or may not be up to things like fire codes, like having appropiate means of egress. This issue affects the inhabitants of the house, and not just the neighborhood, you know?

Exactly. Plus, if your insurance company finds out (i.e. 2nd kitchen, etc.), it will likely invalidate the policy.

Agreed. Tenants also have fewer rights living in an illegal apartment.
They also likely don't have a lease -- and can be kicked out with basically no notice if the apartment is discovered.
