Do people change?
Do you think that the old saying "a leopard never loses it spots" (or whatever it is ) holds true?
I admit I am very leery of people's motivations in the present when their past actions were not so honorable.
What's your opinion?

nope..I don't believe people change. I think people can adapt but will always be the same person.

i think peoples actions and behaviors can tell a lot about them. Can someone improve, sure, I believe so. Change completely though? Nope, but JMO.

Yes. People change. I think you MUST change. It is called growth.
I was a completely and totally different person when I was younger.
If you do NOT change - through experience, through lessons learned - then you may not be living your life fully.

People are who they are. I do, however, believe that one can MANAGE their behaviors.
Take me for example. I know that I have a jealous nature when it comes to DH. When we were in college I would hate when he spoke with other girls. Now that I have matured, I have learned to deal with my flaws.
Instead now I become friendly with any of his girlfriends and because of this, I have made some nice friends.

People can change, but it is VERY hard and they have to be committed to it.
THEY have to want to change, that is why most people don't. Usually OTHER PEOPLE want someone to change, so they try but can't because they really don’t want it. It's VERY HARD to change so if YOU really want it YOU can change, but no matter how much you want someone else to change or try to help them, you can't make someone else change.

ITA...its a growth process...certain characteristics perhaps don't change, but for the most part I believe that people DO change with age.

I feel this way too. Now normally I wouldn't post such personal info, but former "friends" of my sister want to reconnect and get together. They were NOT good influences years ago, and some were quite horrible to her. My personal opinion is that there's a reason why they are in the past...go with it. Leave them there... IN THE PAST.
She on the other hand seems to think that people can change.

I know I'm not the same person I was 5/7 yrs ago. I think I'm a better person today because I worked on changing things about myself that weren't very nice. So yes, I believe people can change.

ppl ONLY change when they want to when they let themselves change FOR THEIR REASONS BECAUSE THEY WANT TO....so in other words no one can change someone else it just doesnt work that way

I was just thinking about this as I was scrubbing my floor. I was thinking about a girl in high school that was so mean and now that her life has developed has she changed her ways.
I think I have changed alot.

Yes I think people can change...But only if they want too, I know i have changed during this past year and i am trying to be a better person from what i was last year, i wont say i was a bad person but i think i have 'grown' for the better. work has improved me with being more
mathetical wise since i work on a register now and more communicative with people at work, also i am trying to be better with my writing and make sense when i type something...lol

Yes, people can change. But they can only change when they can recognize the behavior that needs to change. I believe too many people live in self denial and thus are incapable of changing.

I understand what you are saying and I do think people can "grow", but I think they don't ever really change their tendencies.

I have to disagree. I know alot of people who changed for the better. My dh (with the help of me of course-lol!) changed ALOT. His family has never changed and they never will.

I think people can grow (which is a change) but that is something that happens over time.
I don't think anyone wakes up a changed person.
I think most people, who say they've changed, temporarily change their actions for a short time frame enough to trick you into think they've change.

I agree. It is not an overnight thing. My dh used to get in trouble when he was younger, even after I met him. It had alot to do with the people he hung out with and his mother letting him get away with things. It took awhile for him to change and realize he did not want to live his life like that. He is TOTALLY different than his family now and they are the type that will never change.
