do you think some things can affect you now from your childhood
for EXample: just say i was picked on by the boys in elementry school through out highschool being teased and picked on or hit.
do you think it would affect you now?
for me yes and no.
1) i dont like being teased even if it playful thats the yes part and no because even though i dont like being teased i learned to give it back to them and stand up for myself which i wish i learned than!

I think it really depends to the degree that this happened.
I think it can definitely leave its marks for some people and can definitely affect them.

I'm sure it can depending on the time length the abuse happened. I was made fun cause I had HUGE bottle cap glasses growing for many years but...I don't think it made a dent on my self esteem now.

i dont have low self esteem though i can act like it sometimes but really i dont i think highly of myself i guess it depends on my mood and if someone really upsetted me than maybe i would do that to myself and put myself down!

When I was in 5th or 6th grade I was made fun of because I didn't develop like the other girls...if you know what I mean. Now that I'm older and a 34C, I don't think I feel different...

I think it is different with each person.
I was teased for wearing fake keds (did not have the money)
Now it seems silly to me, but back then I was so embarassed. But then again, I don't own any generic shoes now, so maybe it did stick with me.

i agree, its diff w/each person....
when i was younger, every day in 4th, 5th n 6th grade, this boy lead this other groups of boys to make fun of me
it was my moms best friends son-i hateddd him. and i still hate him....he would just pick on me for everything, call me ugly, etc.

I moved to TN in 8th grade. The summer before my freshman yr. in HS my older brother was killed in a car accident. My friends distanced themselves from me because I was a bit of a mess. 10 yrs later my younger brother was killed in a car accident. I know that these events have effected the way I live my life. In some ways, it has made me more appreciative of my loved ones and my time here on Earth. On the other hand I always feel that people might leave me which interferes with my forming close friendships with people.

Also, Yes, it can definitley affect me now!
I was teased. I was always a "plus" size. Amazingly when I went on WW in 8th grade w/my mom and became thin, everyone started to like me!
I am a plus size again, but, my true friends and family accept me for who I am! Once in HS I learned who my real friends were! And today, I love all my friends cuz they look on whats in the inside!

yes i think they do. WHen i was younger i was a chunky kid and my brothers picked on me relentlessly, to this day i have horrible self esteem and weight issues.
also my mom passing when i was 10 , i take each day with my kids as a gift , as well as my relationship with my dad..to this day when i hear people say " i hate my mother " i cringe , i wish i had one

Absolutely. Even those two examples you gave, Ro, of yes and no are both actually yeses because whether the effect was good or bad, it still affected you through into your adult life.

Definitely -- this is why we have therapists!! And I know quite a few people who are getting good use from therapy, because of things that happened when they were children.
