Do you think this saying is true, If you have a nervous personality, your kids will have a nervous personality?
Do you think it's true that if you have a nervous/panicky type of personality your kids will be like that?
My DH's brother's son is very nervous around other kids or when it's really loud in an area or just too much going on in a room. He is 16 months and cries constantly I would say 9/10 times you will see him. DH's brother's wife is a nervous person herself. She's always worried and panicky, the husband has an opposite type of personality. Do you think that her kind of personality might have brushed off to their DS? I feel bad for them because everytime they go to parties they arrive real late because of him and have to leave real early because of him and they are constantly consoling him during the time they are at a party. I can't figure out if it's the enviorment for him, or if that's just his personality at 16 months. Too early to tell maybe? He was colicky when he was a baby but you would think that he still has colic if you saw him.

Not really. I am the most un-nervous person in the world and my son is a very nervous, anxious little boy. So from the opposite perspective I say No.

I read somewhere that when you are pregnant your baby can sense when you're stressed/nervous because of the changes it causes in your body (increased heart rate, breathing rate change) and that the fetus reacts the same way a few minutes later, so that could translate to a baby who is nervous, perhaps.

Not at all... My Aunt is has always been a nervous wreck and her kids are as calm as can be...

nope, I don't believe it one bit.
I am an extreamly high strung, anxious person and my daughter is so laid back and seriously the happiest kid I've known.

I believe it because my parents are very anxious and nervous people and my earliest memories are of panic and anxiety I used to feel. It's why I am on anxiety meds. i don't want to pass this on to my children.

Absolutely! Although, there are always exceptions.
I was just going to say this. Of course there are exceptions, but children are so influenced by their parents and our view of the world, so I can totally see how a child would be anxious and nervous if a parent is. But also, some people are innately calm and cool. But I definitely think more often than not, there's a huge influence from parent to child.

I would say so. I think kids pick up on it, definitely! My son totally has my neurotic personalilty regarding being on time. I hate being late, and he is just like me. Daddy is the complete laid back opposite, so he could have gone either way.

I agree with Lori...I think it can effect them but there are exceptions.
I think that our children learn some behaviors from us and this could be one...they could take it on as their own or go the opposite way.

I believe it because of my personal experiance. My parents are very nervous people & there was always yelling going on & freaking out over NOTHING in my house & I used to cry constantly as an infant & child. Only after I got married, I calmed down because DH is the total opposite.. he is so calm. To this day, all I have to do is step into my parents house, & I get acid reflux & as soon as I come home to DH I start to feel better.

I think some DC learn to NOT be nervous if their parents are. My mom wasn't panicky, but she leaned in that direction. I would classify her more as "jumpy" at times. When teaching me how to drive a car, she would suddenly say "OH NO!!!" Of course, as a new driver, I would be wondering what vehicle was heading right for us  .... till I found out that she forgot her coupons at home..... 
I think I learned how to be very calm BECAUSE of how nervous and jumpy she was.....

I agree it to be true... only from some personal experience. Doesn't mean for everyone. DH and I are very laid back and Mason is so easy going... now, I hope this stays true.

YES. I see it a lot on here. JMO. I think if you are uptight and nervous it does reflect in your children. And yes, there are ALWAYS exceptions to the rule.

I agree with this.
However, I will tell you that my son is generally a sweet, mellow little boy (well until the arrival of the terrible twos ). We really don't have any help in the way of babysitting, so even now, at 22 months old, we don't go out that much, so he is not used to being around large groups of people he doesn't know - even family. He also tends to be shy. Over the past year, I think every time we went to a party, he was either cranky from teething, didn't get a nap, or was just intimidated by the large group. We went to a family gathering a few weeks ago and it was the first time he was fun to be with at something like that. He could be nervous or anxious, or it could just be that you aren't seeing him at his best.

No. My parents are not anxious at all and I have an anxiety disorder...other than it being hereditary my parents always wondered growing up why I was so nervous when they were not.
