Do you tip?

I have a cake smash session for my sons 1st birthday.
The girl works from her home (studio and props) and this is her job along with being a mommy

Do you pay the given price, and add a tip? or no?

Just want to do the right thing as we may use her again if the photographs come out well

Re: Do you tip?

No, when its the owner of the company, I don't tip- she's getting all the profit. When we go to like target for pictures, I'll give the photographer $10 if they are patient with the kids

Do you tip?

I tip the photographer I use for dd and she is the owner. She does an amazing job and I feel she deserves it.

Only if she does something that is above and beyond.

Re: Do you tip?

I think I tipped once but that's it and I don't remember why my DH probably insisted.

IMO there is no need to tip anyone but waiters/waitresses (anyone in this category) and esp. not owners they get all their profits.

Also most photographers charge IMO an insane amount of money I cant imagine having to tip on top of what they charge already.

No, she owns the company, the entire price that she set forth that you are paying is going into her pocket. She doesn't have to give a cut to her "employer", and she isn't working for an hourly wage. You will get very mixed opinions on this on here, so I would do what you want, not what we say you should do LOL

Do you tip?

I don't follow the whole - don't tip the owner - thing. If the service is good, I'll tip. I tip my hairdresser all the time and it's just her.

and Im the opposite, I dont get the whole tip the world for doing there job thing. Going above and beyond is called good customer service, and its why people get repeat customers or referrals.

this is just a thought not meant to start a debate

No. You aren't technically supposed to tip the owner, although I don't adhere to this with haircuts/color.

I don't tip everyone. I don't tip the cashier at DD for instance. But hair, photos, restaurants. Sure. No matter who is performing the service.

Re: Do you tip?

With photos, probably not. Unless its someone you have used multiple times.

They could end up not editing them nicely, taking 3 months to edit them, or just being a horrible person to deal with.

Photographers and vendors we have used multiple times, I will tip. We know their work is good.

I imagine the time for editing is built into the price, no?

Yes, but just as I pay a delivery charge for, lets say.. a couch.. I tip the delivery driver. Any type of service provided shoudl get a tip.. owner or not IMO ... its just a little way to say thanks. Im sure when I get my hair done the charge is partly for labor.. Honestly is 10/20$ really going to kill you in the grand scheme.. and you can put a smile on someones face

I really don't understand the "Don't tip the owner" thing... isn't a tip a Thank you? Just because they own a company, and make more money than another employee means they arent entitled to a "thank you" ? Its like saying.. hey.. my brother john makes more than my brother billy so Im not going to give him as much of a gift

Re: Do you tip?

You don't need to but if they go above and beyond, I will sometimes just round up whatever the charge is to the next nice round number.

Re: Do you tip?

I rarely get tips and never expect it. If clients do tip I usually send them something extra. The only time I'd maybe tip if its a free session you won but still not necessary.

No, if they go above and beyond I would refer them to everyone I know, which will lead to a lot more money than a tip.
