Do you trust using Johnson & Johnson's Natural line? What about Aveeno?

I'm packing up all my J&J products to return them to the store.

I'm looking for the quick answer because my baby is waking up and I tried going on that safe cosmetics website to check each product, and I'm lost. lol.

I'm going to return all the body washes, shampoos, etc. But I have the Johnson's Natural Foaming Body Wash. The statement from J&J says that doesn't contain the controversial chemical. Would you trust it?

What about Aveeno?

This is my opinion, you don't have to take it but since you asked I'm just throwing it out there.

I wouldn't trust ANYTHING from them. They shouldn't have to say that their natural line doesn't have those chemicals in them, they shouldn't be putting chemicals in anything for a baby in the first place. After that, how can you trust a company, KWIM?

We used Aveeno before I found out about the chemical thing because DS had really, really bad eczema when he was 1-2 months old. Aveeno says on the bottle that it's recommended for eczema by the eczema foundation but it actually made his eczema so much worse, his skin was so raw it was almost bleeding. The sunscreen made his face so red. I thought I was doing the right thing by using this product, spending the extra money to protect his skin, to make it better but it was so bad. After reading recommendations on here and hearing other moms on here who had similar experiences with Aveeno, we stopped using it and tried California Baby and he didn't have the same side effects at all. It actually helped his eczema. It wasn't that alone, we use All Free and Clear and stopped dairy so now he is eczema free but I know it was the Aveeno making it worse because within minutes of putting it on his skin he would be tomato red.

I don't trust the company. We are on a budget but we shell out the extra money for Earth's Best, California Baby, and Babyganics products because they don't harm him.

Just my opinion. You need to do what you feel comfy with though. If you did your research and believe that these aren't safe then don't use them, return them. But if you are comfy with using them then use them.

I hope our experience with the brand helps you out.

I trust no one anymore. I cross check almost everything I buy with a million sources and read ingredients list so much I should get a degree in chemistry.

California Baby is a very good and easy to find brand.

Watch for "organic" labels, and "baby" labels, they mean squat, look deeper.

My ped warned us not to use any J&J products a while ago - he doesn't trust them. He told us instead to use Dove unscented soap for everything. At the time I thought he must be payed off by Dove to say that. And how weird Dove isn't even made for babies I thought. It turns out to be very gentle and pure soap.

He gave us the same warning against Desitin, and said A&D is much better brand. I crossed checked and there are some concerns there too.

We use Cetaphil wash and have since day one. According to our ped it's safe for children/babies and it doesn't have any harmful chemicals in it. We also have children with sensitive skin and this works great!

We use Aveeno shampoo for DS and will keep doing so. when it runs out, maybe we will change. IDK we'll see when we get there. No more of the j and j stuff, it dried him out so we stopped using it anyway.

Nope. I feel like the 98% natural thing is like the 98% fat-free foods--it's marketing. I tried it once when DD was younger and her cheek turned bright red--I assume from the fragrance. They say it doesn't contain synthetic fragrances, but natural ingredients and essential oils can be irritating, too.

I was using J&J naturals and found it very drying so we switched to Aveeno. We were still using J&J natural lotion but after reading this post I think we will discontinue use. I didn't even know there was a problem with their products.

I don't trust them. My friend is a chemist and said J&J have so many chemicals in them. One of the worst. I use California baby. I have used Aveeno as well but have heard not so great things about them either.

No I dont trust them at all- they had a chance to do the right thing and remove the harmful chemicals from the brand and they are not doing it fast enough. I tossed the aveeno stuff that I was using yesterday and started using an organic brand I found at trader joes- it had 7 ingredients all of which I recognized.

What does your mom suggest using for wash, shampoo and lotion?

She's a big fan of cetaphil and/or aquaphor

There's an aquaphor baby wash

Thank you!

My Ped suggested non-scented Dove for bodywash but I just don't know what to use for shampoo and lotion.

Yeah I use that aquaphor wash for her hair too, just a tiny bit...and cetaphil for lotion. Non-scented dove is always good too.

DD was recommended the Dove soap and Cetaphil lotions and we use Aquaphor at every change and triple paste when she is red...as for shampoo, DD doesn't have a ton of hair, but I just run the washcloth with the Dove on it in her hair and what she has is nice and soft ;)

No, I cannot trust anything J&J, Aveno, & whatever else they produce.

As far as aquaphor, I will not use that on my baby's skin anymore since it contains mineral oil & began reading about the negatives of mineral oil on the skin. I don't know if the shampoo has mineral oil but I don't see myself every buying it anyway.

fyi - mineral oil

one more

Re: Do you trust using Johnson & Johnson's Natural line? What about Aveeno?

I have only ever used California Baby products on all my kids. The chemicals in our bath products are absurd. I use mostly organic/natural products myself & try to buy organic foods when I can.

I got all worked up when pg w/ my ds over an article in the Times regarding behavioral issues in kids & a link to pregnant moms using harmful soaps etc. Ever since then I get most of my stuff from Trader Joes.

I read something years ago about how J&J's is "tear free" because they use a numbing agent in the products. I'm not sure if it's true but it stuck with me.

It's so scary what's in our food & products. Chat Icon I try not to think about it to much but I do read labels now.

Re: Do you trust using Johnson & Johnson's Natural line? What about Aveeno?

I use Method's baby wash. I like their products and use most of their line. I started with their hand soap and liked that it didnt dry out my hands. Then I added dish soap, cleaners and now even their laundry soap and fabric softener.

I love how DS smells after a bath. And the smell lasts a few days too. We are fortunate that he seems to have no skin issues, so the fragrance in it is fine for him.

You can't beat that J&J smell though.
I use that and Baby Magic on DD...the chemicals don't concern me - I use a small drop - it's not like she's bathing IN the soap.
I was a J&J kid and I am still alive to tell it.
