Do you trust your local dry cleaner to do alterations?
I just scored an excellent deal on a beautiful dress. It fit well in the store, but I noticed a few loose threads. I switched the dresses before checking out--same size--and went on my way.
I just tried it on at home and it's loose on top. I'm going to bring it back and see if the original one I tried on is still available (there were only three left and I'll notice the threads) but if it's not or if they don't accept returns on the Dale item, should I trust my local dry cleaner for alterations?
It's chiffon and the bust needs to be taken in. A pretty delicate dress.
I really love it.

YES! My dh has to wer suits 5 days a week for work, he has to look very professional and he trusts the local dry cleaners--they did a great job altering his suit, and it needed a lot of work!!
He got the suit for burlington coat factory and they have an in house tailor who wanted to charge him $90. He left the store went to the local dry cleaners and it was $30!!!

Re: Do you trust your local dry cleaner to do alterations?
I wouldn't - but I've had a bad experience already. I was tired of paying so much to get my jeans hemmed at the tailor, so one time I took a pair to my local cleaners instead and asked them if they were able to reattach the original hem like the tailor does. They said yes, no problem. Got the jeans back a couple days later, and they looked terrible. They clearly didn't have the experience necessary to do a good job, and ruined my brand new jeans.
So personally, I won't ever again take clothes somewhere new to get altered unless I know ahead of time that the place has a good reputation. Is there any way you can find out if they're good at alterations? Online reviews? A friend who's taken their stuff there?
