Do you use baby powder on your infant?
I would like to but I have not yet. I want to put some in his little creases, now that he has some!!!! If I decide to use it, should I use cornstarch or baby powder? I have heard that it is not good for them to breathe in the particles.

I was told it was a no no bc they can choke on the powder.

I haven't used it yet for my DS, but I believe it is better to use the powder with the cornstarch. Talcum has the particles that are bad for the baby to breath.

My ped told me yesterday to use cornstarch in the folds of her neck because they get really red. I had already been doing this  I don't pour it directly on her but on a cottonball and then rub it in her neck.

I have been using powder since day one...I sprinkle a little on his diaper before I put it on him, and we have all been fine with it. Sometimes after a bath(not all of the time) we put it in his folds as well, but we put it on our hands and then rub it in.

I use cornstarch for the neck and body, and Caldesene (talc and zinc oxide) for the tushy and fat rolls.
FYI~my NP at the PED said NOT to use cornstarch in the diaper because it can help promote yeast diaper rashes.

I use it on DS after a bath - usually in the diaper area only. I started using it when DS was a few weeks old, the J&J cornstarch version.

Nope. The ONLY time I did was in the summer, I put it on his rolls! He was, and still is, a chubby baby. I also put it under his neck b/c he would get red and irritated. Iw ould put it on my finger, then under his neck. I do not use it now.

We use actual corn starch when his winky looks a little red...DH hates the smell of the baby stuff.

never...but all the bottle of it came in handy. Now that I am a 36F, I sprinkle it under my boobs after the shower to help keep them fresh

I don't use powder on DD but when DS was younger I would put it on him after a bath. It made putting on his clothes a lot easier and I liked the way it smelled! But I didn't use it on him until he was around a year old and I would pour it into my hand (away from him), and then rub it on his skin so he didn't breath in any big puffs of powder. He was fine with it. I will do the same with DD when she gets a little older.

My Ped suggested I dont, She said she isnt a fan of this.
Cant remember the reason she told me though...it wasnt about the baby breathing it in though.

yes I was told this by the neonatologist in NICU that baby powder isnt necessary especially for preemies and to refrain from using it becuase its bad for them to breathe in..From our Phamplet---
"Avoid using talcum powder—breathing the particles may irritate your baby’s nose and lungs. It can also collect in baby’s skin creases, leading to irritation and rashes."

I do, on his diaper area. When DS was born it was hot so he got a bad case of prickly heat and the doctor told us to use it on his neck and shoulders so it cant be that dangerous.
