Do you use the safety belt your changing pad has to hold the baby in place?

I went out and bought my changing pad last night and it has this belt that you can fasten the baby in while your changing.

I don't think its practical and I'm curious if anyone uses it. I want to cut them off but I'm still hesitant about it.

Do you use it?

This is the one I got btw

I don't use it - but I didn't cut them off...I just tucked them behind the dresser.

OMG YES! Don't cut them off! Definitely attach it to the furniture as recommended - if will move all over the place as they squirm if you don't. I used it everytime I needed to leave her on it alone (even if its for only a minute.) Esp. now that she's mobile, its just safer.

And my DD loved the changing table and would sometimes fall asleep on it. I wasn't moving her - so I just strapped her inChat Icon

I used to use it all the time when he was smaller.

I used them a few times. They are no match against a squirming baby. But dont cut them off, you never know when you will need an extra bit of help keeping the baby contained. It's not like they're meant to keep the baby free of human hands but it might help in a pinch if you are reaching for something.

Do you mean the ones to attach it to the furniture or the ones that go around the baby?

IMO, you have to use the ones that attach to the furniture...such a safety hazard if you don't, even with a newborn, the pad slides all over the place and makes it really hard to change the baby.

The ones for the baby itself we never use, we just tuck them under the cover

The one I got has both. It's actually not the simmons one I posted. The one I got is made by Especially For Babys. It has teddy bear print on it. It also has a no slip bottome. It's kind of made out of that rubbery material you would put under rugs so that they don't slide.

nope, never used it. now, he would just climb out of it anyway, and when he was younger, he didn't know how to roll. So there was never a time when it was useful

Huh, that rubber bottom is a good feature, ours doesn't have that so we have to secure it with the straps....if you're planning on using a cover with it, I'd leave the straps on for now and just tuck them under...then if you decide to use them, they'll still be there.

NOpe don't use the straps at all with both my girls. I don't see the need for them you should be right there with your hands and eyes on them at all times. JMO

I've been using them since my DD loves to roll over on the changing pad. I'm so scared she would fall if I didn't strap her in.

I use them whenever I have to step away, which is sometimes just across the room to get his onesie or something.

But he's still little and not rolling too much at this point when he gets changed, so I'm sure that will change as he gets older.

I cut the safety belt off, I never leave DS unattended anyway. I think at this point he would be crawling away with the changing pad attached to him like a back pack if I belted him in!!! Chat Icon

Oh and I have the same contour pad!

My changing table has rails around the top so I don't use a safety belt.

Definitely attached the pad to the table with the strap. Only occasionally used the waist strap. Always stood directly in front of DC while they were on the pad, but the strap was just a little extra security. We don't use the straps now, but we just tucked them under the pad.

I use them...Baby G is very wiggly. I of course never leave his side when he is on it, but the extra security makes me feel better.
