you do realize that you're in the minority
i respect anyone who's been a diehard and taken the wins in stride
the sad reality is that the good ones are a minority and as a met fan, we've had to endure comment after comment after comment from the majority of the loudmouths who continue to throw it in our faces every year.
Not to mention the obvious NY media bias.
So unfortunately for the respectful ones, when the Mets do well and should we win the whole thing, payback is gonna be plentiful. And for any Yankee fan that has been respectful and not thrown it in our face, I apologize in advance. You're just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

but in all honesty...that shoe can be put on the other foot.

as was in 2000...

I understand what you mean, but I disagree. The Yankees don't need to beat the Mets to show they still have it. They can show that by beating any team. If this Yankee team wins than it shows that the core 4 players that are still there still have it. It also shows that the younger players on their team are good solid players. But they don't need to beat the Mets to do that. Winning the WS will prove all that they need to prove.
Beating the Mets really doesn't prove anything more to me than if they beat any other team. Let me clarify, if the Yankees play the Padres in the WS and the Yankees win, I'm not going to say we have nothing to gain by beating the Padres because we just beat them in 98. Of course winning a WS is something to gain. But it doesn't make it any better to me by beating the Mets. I don't want a subway series because I have more to lose as a fan than to gain. If the Yankees and the Mets play each other and the Yankees win are the Mets fans going to say the Yankees are better? Are they going to admit that? No. Instead I'm going to have to hear well if the Mets had the payroll the Yankees had they could win. If the Mets had as many all stars they could win. You get the point. As a fan of the team that is expected to win because of the 2 above stated points, I have no more to gain in a subway series than I do against any other team. The Yankees are expected to win and if they don't I'd rather it be against a team that's 3,000 miles away than a team that's 20 miles away. Because if they don't play each other and the Yankees lose at least I can say something back to the Mets fans. But if they lose to the Mets I will have nothing to say except congrats and I don't want to do that.

ok, good point, i'll agree with the part where you say it doesn't really matter who you play.
You're right, no matter who they play, if they win the World Series, they're winners and should be congratulated. Winning the WS isn't easy, no matter who it's against.
And as far as what you'll have to hear from the Met fans should the Yankees win, all I will say is that any Met fan that uses that tired old argument about payroll, is ignorant IMO.
It's a dumb argument. It might have held water 2 years ago, but no more.
Yes, the Yankee payroll is the highest. But, the Mets aren't shy in doling out the cash either.
Yes, we don't have the all-star names, but we have a comparable lineup.
So if the Mets lose and the fans start whining about payroll and star-power and all that jazz, the bottom line is. Money and name power don't win championships. It's what you do in the last 11 games of the season that matters.
When you're in the playoffs, salaries and star power is chucked at the door. It's a different animal entirely. If the Mets are that good, then we win. If not, we lose.
The real fans don't make any excuses. If the Yanks beat us, they were the better team. No excuses about payroll and whining "oh if we only had A-Rod or Jeter."
