i believe it has a removable washable part but im not certain bc i dont have it yet

The top layer is definitely washable (and thank goodness because DD spit up on it early on pretty bad). It goes in the wash, gentle cycle, low dryer. You can wash it with the rest of the baby's stuff (we use All Free & Clear for all our laundry now). It's got clips to undo and velcro.
