Do your DC's Drink Juice

DS is 19 months and I haven't given him juice. Never saw the need to because he's been fine drinking milk and water. But I recently tried introducing him to juice and he immediately let me know he was not interested. I even diluted it with a lot a water and he still tasted the difference. Little Booger!

I'm ok with him not liking juice but my only concern is once he turns 2, his milk intake will decrease more and once he's off the bottle then that only leaves the sippy cup and right now the only think he'll drink out of his sippy cup is water. Milk is a definite No no because he already has repeatedly refused milk in the sippy...

Re: Do your DC's Drink Juice

My kids drink juice (both diluted or however we give it to them) but they drink all their juice, milk, water in their sippies.

Your DS may show resistence to drinking his milk out of a sippie, but once he sees that momma isn't giving him back that bottle, he'll have no choice but to drink it out of the sippie.

Good luck!Chat Icon

DS drinks the Gerber Splashers which is 60% water & 40% juice and he loves it. I have been giving it him since he was 10 - 11 months old.

Re: Do your DC's Drink Juice

I tried giving DS juice a few times in a bottle and he wasn't interested at all. He's only 9 months. Maybe I'll try a sippy, but he doesn't have the hang of a sippy yet so I usually just give him water because it ends up all over the place!

Re: Do your DC's Drink Juice

DD has been drinking juice for while.
Usually diluted with water out of her sippy cups.

She has been drinking milk from the sippy cup as well. She actually drinks more milk than anything else.

Re: Do your DC's Drink Juice

My almost 21 month old doesn't drink juice, she doesn' like it even diluted.

She'll only take milk out of her nuby sippy cup(not the straw kind) warmed up and water out of her straw cup.

she's fine with it and so am iChat Icon

Re: Do your DC's Drink Juice

My DD didn't like juice until she was about 13-14 months old. I kept reintroducing it when she had a cold b/c I was cutting down on the milk to avoid excess mucus. She likes it now. I give her a 4 oz. juice box every day or two.

I started giving DS juice after 18 months because our ped wanted us to cut back on his milk and he was always thirsty. I give him a sippy cup filled with about 6oz water and 2-3 oz of juice.

No juice, never saw a need for it!

As far as the milk in the sippy issue, have you tried changing cups? DS knows which sippy is for water and which is for milk (and g-d forbid we use the wrong one) Chat Icon Chat Icon

Yep, bad mommy here. I've given my kids juice since they were younger than 1. Of course, watered down, AND they still drink their milk and water without a fuss, so why not a treat and change-up with some juice every now and then?

Re: Do your DC's Drink Juice

My kids do. We do the watered down thing too like most everyone I know. But if he doesn't like it and drinks water willingly, I don't see the problem. I'd try a few different sippies to see what he will use with the milk. The Nubys might be a great choice bc the top is soft. It obviously not nipple shaped like a bottle but it's a soft. Maybe the hard plastic of the sippy is not giving him the comfort he associates with milk? Just guessing....but it will work itself out, you'll see.

Re: Do your DC's Drink Juice

DD is 10 weeks old and I have been giving her pear juice because she has been constipated. I dilute it 1oz of juice per 4 ozs of water. I plan on giving her diluted juice regulary as she gets older. I like Beech Nut or Earths Best....low sugar. I personally don't see the issue with a little juice a day especially if it's diluted.

Re: Do your DC's Drink Juice

DS loves juice (I dilute it a lot though) He drinks from a sippy cup. I did introduce the sippy with milk though so he would get the concept that milk could come from a bottle or sippy. At about 10 months I just took the bottle away cold turkey - it was a struggle at first to get him to finish the sippy but now that is all he knows and will drink anything out of a sippy at 18 mo. (although now no more milk since I just found out he is intolerant Chat Icon )

Re: Do your DC's Drink Juice

No DD will ONLY drink water. She will not drink any milk at all since off the bottle. I tried OJ with calcium and she didn't like it. Recently I tried apple and grape juice at the recommendation of my ped when she was vomiting and wouldn't take pedialyte (he felt water is not the best when she's not eating - she needed sugars) - she wouldn't take it.

So she just get's water....her choice.
