Re: do your kids call your close friends aunt and uncle even though they arent?
I have a friend who started calling herself "aunt" to Michael from the beginning and considers me an "aunt" to her son. I'm still having a hard time with it, although, I do address myself as Aunt when I sign her son's cards... however, my DH has always called any adult "aunt/uncle"...
When I was growing up, my parents friends were always called by their first names.
But, the friends I had in school - their parents were always "Mr and Mrs."

We always did (as in my family)..I have soooooooo many "aunts and uncles" but I don't think we will be doing that with our kids...they will probably just call them by their first names.

Re: do your kids call your close friends aunt and uncle even though they arent?
2 of my close friends yes, definitely and I wouldn't have it any other way. I have 2 other not so close friends who took it upon themselves to call themselves Aunt X to the baby and I'm OK with it although it struck me as odd at first.
In the South, they go around calling people Miss X (like they do in daycare) as sort of a formal/respectful title which avoids just calling an adult by their first name. This works in some cases, but at first I was weirded out being called Miss by a child. It is cute though!

Re: do your kids call your close friends aunt and uncle even though they arent?
My Child(ren) will never call an adult by their first name! To me it's just a matter of respect. Everyone else will be Mr. & Mrs. or the are a few "Misses" in there like "Miss Cynthia". My sister has no problem with it. I'm closer to some of my friends then I am to my other sister.
We grew up calling everyone Mr. & Mrs. or Aunt & Uncle. We had first cousins on my Dad's side that were in their 40's when we were born and they are Aunt & Uncle. We always new the difference between blood Aunts and "Aunts out of respect" and there was never any confusion.

Yes, they call my close friends "aunt" and "uncle". I just find it more respectful. I grew up calling my mother's BF's "aunt" and I still do till this day.

my closest friend refers to my DH and I as Aunt and Uncle to her twins. I will do the same when I have children. I am honored and do feel like an Aunt to her girls. I love them like they were my own.

No...I don't like non family members being called aunt and uncle. Neigbors, friends and other adults are either Mrs. lastname or Ms. first name.
