my father and ILs each buy DH and I gifts. My father takes us out for my bday. my inlaws only take us out for DH's bday. We buy ILs bday gifts, though MIL usually complains that hers isn't nice or expensive enough.

both my parents and my il's will give us gifts and we do the same for them. and we usually get together for cake.

My parents buy us both gifts, they are incredibly generous with gifts for our birthdays, Christmas and even our anniversary. In fact, my mom's birthday is January 4th, and she hated sharing it wiht Christmas, and DH's is December 29th, so she makes a big deal about his bday. So, we buy them nice gifts and do dinner on their birthdays and anniversary too.
My SMIL is good, she buys for us on our birthdays as well. We buy for her and DH's little siblings.
My MIL is horrible. My SIL is horrible. They barely remember DH's birthday and when they are reminded (by me ) they lie and say they sent him something nad that it "got lost in the mail". They've never remembered my birthday. And MIL says she has no money for Christmas gifts, so we don't do Christmas with them.
I send them ecards on their birthdays, I do, however, send my neice gifts, she shouldn't be punished b/c her mom is an a$$.

We get b-day gifts from both sets of parents and give them as well.

my parents buy me and DH birthday gifts and so do my IL's...even before we were married. we also buy them birthday gifts.
