do your parents/inlaws come to your house on xmas? (poll)

Just curious what most do.

long story short, my inlaws are giving us a problem because normally we go to their house at 9am to do presents at their house (it HAS to be done at their house). Then we ALL go to my SIL's house at 11 for lunch. Then my inlaws come to our house for dinner. We all live in the same town.

THis year... my dad and stepmom are flying out and staying with us. So we told my inlaws that we won't be making it in the morning and would see them at my SIL's house.

They're throwing a fit. Now they said they're going to drop my sons presents off in the morning (not stay) and they won't be coming over for dinner.

Now in my house when i was little, my grandparents came to us.

So i'm curious... do your in laws/parents come to your house to give the kids presents or do you go to their house?

ETA: i guess i should have clarified for those that live in the same town/area as their inlaws/parents.

We go to them because it's easier. My MIL has been giving us major problems though and we've been trying to combine family events (it's only her and my BIL anyway) but she's being a pain.

My parents are out of town, but when it's our year with them they come to us---for me Christmas is about the kids---I want them to wake up in their beds, run down the stairs and see Santa was here. It doesn't mean we won't ever travel to them for Christmas, but when they are little I prefer to do it at my house.

We go to my parents' house on Christmas morning to open up gifts and then we stay there all day long.

Christmas Eve is at my house and Christmas Day is typically at my SIL's house in NJ. This year it's at my house - 2 holiday dinners back to back!

Usually we go to inlaws on Christmas eve (hate it)! I like to play up santa reindeer cookies and milk etc. We can't do it when we get home at 11 pm Christmas eve from their house.

So this year we decided to host. I told dh we are not going anywhere, and if anyone from his family does not come we will not see them for the holiday.

When we had DS I decided to nip any and all Christmas issues in the bud. We always go to my parents for Christmas Eve. It is my mom's holiday and that's just what we do. Last year I began our ANNUAL DESSERT OPEN HOUSE. DH, DS and I have a nice quiet morning and afternoon together. I make an intimate meal and at 4 pm we open our house to whomever wants to visit us. Dessert, wine, eggnog, music, etc. There will be no traveling for us. Last year was our first year and my ILs and a couple of friends stopped by. This year we are expecting a larger crowd.

Christmas eve is at my mil's but it's both of our families together. Christmas morning is brunch at our house. My parents do Christmas dinner at my aunts house, but we usually go to my husband's family because my aunt has dogs and my dds and husband are allergic. My parents/inlaws feel that my kids shouldn't be asked to leave their house and new toys, which works well for us!

I host Thanksgiving, and got super lucky when I married because my MIL celebrates just Xmas Eve and my parents celebrate just Xmas Day.

Never an issue, we travel to them.

we do Christmas eve at my MILs house, and Christmas with my family.

growing up we always did Christmas at our house, because each member of the family had one set holiday.

once the kids get older, we will do Christmas at my Aunts house

My mom does x mas eve...and we do xmas day.
I am an only child-and my husbands family is in FL....so we have no problems with xmas.
His extended family do their own thing....but being an only child-my side comes first! :)

Ughhh we have to go to my parents house! They're only 10 mins away but my mother still wants all 3 of us to go there for breakfast

Christmas Eve is with the inlaws and Christmas Day we travel to my families house in Dutchess County so I am not sure if my inlaws will come over that morning since this will be DD first Christmas. They always went to BIL house to open gifts with my nephew.

I hope not because I would like to relax with hubby and DD before we make our 2 hour ride, I rather not have company since I plan on being on the road by 11 the latest.

For now, no. We live in a 950 sq ft condo, so we would rather go to their house. This year we are going to my inlaws on Christmas Eve for the Italian fishes. Then day of our place, just us in the AM for our presents. Then around 11 off to my parents. Then we go to my Aunt's for dinner. We might go to my sister's he next for for presents with them. They will be at my aunt's, but there are so many people there it just gets chaotic.

I just want to comment that your IL's are being extremely rude and I cannot believe grown adults would act like that.

Christmas we go to dinner at my moms every. single. year.

For a while it was tolerable but now that my DH and I don't get along with my sister (she lives with my parents) its like torture. Then the house isn't really baby proof and my DS is 17.5 months and hes an explorer so I can barely sit because I am chasing after him. My father is a complainer and he will b!tch and moan about everything the baby is doing.

I mentioned about coming to my apartment instead but that was shot down. My parents are the kind of people that you HAVE to go to them. If I never went there again I would never see them ever. They refuse to visit my house. Why? I have no idea. Selfish I guess.

My family lives OOS, and my DH parents are divorced...so I do xmas so that all the grandparents can see the grandkids (we have the only ones). I am sure somewhere down the road my SIL will have kids and maybe it will change on her end, but I will not give up xmas. I want my kids in their own house on that day. I always went to my Aunts on xmas and I hated leaving all my toys! LOL!

Christmas Eve we go to Mass with my parents and family and then we go to my parent's house every year..we open gifts that night from my parents and brothers/sisters in law
Christmas day we stay home, open gifts from santa, this year we will watch the knicks season opener lol, and my parents will come for dinner, and my ILs and parents will be there for dessert where we exchange gifts
my MIL's brother's wife was trying to make a tradition of going to their house on Christmas, but they live in Long Beach and we live in Selden so we aren't doing that anymore, especially with kid(s)

I'm sure your ILs will come around, they sound like they are being very selfish

No. We do our own thing Christmas morning and get together later in the day either at MIL's if she's hosting or if I'm hosting here but I prefer not to host Christmas day.

We go to my ILs on Christmas Eve (my mother does too). They exchange gifts then, which was the tradition in Germany when my FIL was little (he was born in 1927). On Christmas morning my mother comes over, but she lives 1/3 of a mile away from me. I host Christmas day and both my mother and ILs come.

Christmas morning? Is FAMILY only. . .by FAMILY I mean MOMMY DADDY BABY AND DOG lol We do not go anywhere. We go to the vigil mass teh night before so we can stay home all morning. No one is invited over -- after the entire season running here and there so everyone can "see" the baby. . .Christmas morning until dinner time (around 3PM) is US only and it will ALWAYS be us.

Every year my ILs go to BILs house and they always asked why we wanted to open presents "alone" We were NEVER alone - we always had each other and that is all we need! cant wait for the annual fight about this.

god help me, they are ALL coming to my house for xmas eve/ xmas. (mIL, SIL/BIL, ANd MY FAMILY.)

b/c we live in PA we try to split holidays. But Xmas is usually at my house.

We go to my parents. DH's mother lives OOS so we usually don't see her for Christmas.

Once the boys are older, we will stay here and I guess my parents will rotate which house they go to.
