Do your parents still spoil you for the holidays?
Mine do, and it makes me really uncomfortable sometimes because I feel like I'm too old for them to be buying me all the things they do. I told them to scale it back this year since we now have Ava, but they didn't. It just makes me feel bad that I don't have the money to spoil them back. When I said something to them, they rolled their eyes and told me to get over it But still. Makes me a little uncomfortable.

Re: Do your parents still spoil you for the holidays?
Oh yes. If anything I feel as if they have gotten MORE generous as the years have gone on. I think my parents are in a comfortable financial place now and the past five years have been VERY generous all around. I also think my mom is at a point where she is realizing that she can't take it with her (money, that is) and they want us to enjoy things while they are still alive to see our happiness.
This year I got some nice small gifts and a Dooney and Bourke bag. My brother (five years older) got expensive cycling pedals and cycling sneakers and each of our spouses got nice things AND we got some joint gifts for us as couples.
I know what you mean about feeling uncomfortable. It is weird. This year I think we spent $150 each on my parents and at first DH and I were budget conscious and then when I was wrapping stuff and debating on whether or not to return some things, DH said we should give them everything because they have been so generous.

My mother cannot shop due to her physical limitations so she gives us cash. This year, she was very generous to us -to all of her children and children in law.

Re: Do your parents still spoil you for the holidays?
yes...considering we just got back from a ten day all expenses european christmas vacation with them...and they still got us gifts...i only feel uncomfortable about it because financially there is no way we could ever come close to reciprocating...but we are very appreciative and let them know that

Re: Do your parents still spoil you for the holidays?
Oh yeah - but I think they were more generous with the cash than usual because they know we're strapped with Katie's treatments.

Re: Do your parents still spoil you for the holidays?
My dad has always spoiled me. He used to buy all these gifts and then he stopped and I was upset but he gives me a nice check now, it is almost too much. When I have kids he will spoil them instead of me LOL

Re: Do your parents still spoil you for the holidays?
Heck yes. I'm a little upset over it too because I feel they shouldn't be spending so much $$ and I asked them not to get me anything. They told me they still llove to watch me open gifts

Yes, and I also feel a little uncomfortable about it. But, oh well, I'm very grateful for both parents kindness and generosity.

Yes they're still very generous.
Same here. I tell them every year to save it for themselves and for when we have a child. They were better this year but they still spent more than they should have.

Re: Do your parents still spoil you for the holidays?
I would have to say no considering my mother is gone. My father didn't even give us a phone call or card. I am guessing that is the opposite of spoiling us for the holidays.

Re: Do your parents still spoil you for the holidays?
I was shocked at what my Dad gave me for Christmas this year
it was alot more then last year- and last year was double what we used to get
plus he paid for me and my DH plane tickets down to FL
he was extra generous this year- it was almost too much

Re: Do your parents still spoil you for the holidays?
Yes, my parents spoil us. Every year my mom tries to cut back on what she spends, but she feels guilty. We don't need a thing, yet she keeps buying and buying. It makes her happy to buy things for us. And every year she thinks she didn't do enough.
It still makes DH uncomfortable, but I think he's getting used to it. His parents stopped buying gifts a long time ago, and the first couple of Christmases wer awkward for him b/c he wasn't used to getting so many gifts. But now he sees that my mom WANTS to do this, and that she isn't going to change.
Thanks Mom & Dad!

Re: Do your parents still spoil you for the holidays?
Yes! My mom keeps track of every penny spent. No one gets more, no one gets less. My parents spend the same on the 3 of us, my nephew, my dh, and my SIL. No one gets "Cheated" as mom puts it. "You are ALL my kids"..is her philosophy.

Re: Do your parents still spoil you for the holidays?
No, and they never did. They used to spoil my niece and nephews, but Jackson (our son) is grandchild #6 of 7 for them, and my parents have been retired for a few years and are in their 70's, so they're being careful about what they spend on each of the kids now. They only get DH and I and my siblings and spouses a couple of gifts each.
Our family has never had a lot of money, so my parents gave to me and my siblings what they could. Can't say the same about the ILs, who go to the Carribbean every few months and rent a sailboat, but they give DH and I minimal gifts (they gave us NOTHING for our birthdays). Even Jackson, who is their first grandchild, only got ONE gift from them - a wooden train set (um, he's 7 months old. What the heck is he going to do with a train set???)
