Finished it, and really enjoyed it!
I have to say, Stephen King is definitely mellowing in his old age 
His writing is still excellent, but i find that he's no where near as scary as he used to be.
At least, that's my opinion after reading 11/22/63 and Dr Sleep recently.
I don't mind it at all, its just a bit of departure from most of his other writing.
The book is a good continuation of Daniel Torrence's life when he's an adult, and of how the past can always come back to haunt you.
I recommend it!

Definitely a great book but yes, he just doesn't have that total fear thing going anymore. I was hoping it was the book, not just me, too numb to scary stories

No, but it really would help to have read The Shining first before this one. This book is a sequel to it. It still stands on its own, but certain things will have a lot more meaning if you've read The Shining first

Doctor Sleep aka The Shining #2 is out!
So I finished this - I actually really liked it! I also enjoyed reading the authors note at the end. It occured to me that while I've read at least 10 Stephen King books I never read the shining. I downloaded it today for $1.99...so excited to start it!
