Re: sleep apnea doctor

This is who I'm going to:
http://www.sleepsolutionsny.com/

I'm actually not using a CPAP machine. It bothered me too much, and made me sleep worse (it's not common that this happens, but it does for some people). I have a mouth piece that extends the lower jaw while sleeping. That shifts the soft palate and tongue, so you don't snore.

thank you sooo much....did you have to see an ent first, or did you go right to them?

The head person there is an ENT. It wasn't much of a diagnosis for me. I've been snoring up a storm for years (you've probably heard me... that wasn't thunder in the distance... Chat Icon Chat Icon , and DW noticed that I would stop breathing once in a while. She didn't realize it was about 84 times an hour, though! Chat Icon )

The other night wasn't me... I have the oral appliance now, so I sleep almost normally now. At my most recent study, I only stopped about 15 times (up to 5 is "normal"), and I've been adjusting it since then, so I should be even better now.

Depends on your insurance. My old insurance needed referrals, so that's how I went there the first time. Now, with my current insurance, I don't need referrals, so I could just make an appointment with them directly.

Now that I'm used to the mouthpiece, I sleep SOOOOO much better. It's like night and day (pun intended.... Chat Icon ). I sleep through the night, I'm rested during the day, I've cut my caffeine intake down tremendously (I think it's now just a matter of taste and habit more than trying to stay awake). DW sleeps better since I'm not waking her up.
DS is also in Cub Scouts, and will start going on overnight camping trips, so now I don't have to worry about keeping all the boys up all night because I make too much noise, and they think there's a bear in the next tent!

Re: sleep apnea doctor

DH & I went for the sleep apnea test. He has it, but I dont. You make an appointment and sleep at the office (we went to a Dr. in Lynbrook). They hook you up to a million wires all over your body. Its very weird but at least they wake you up early (around 6am), to go home.

If you have sleep apnea, you then have to do another sleep test with the CPAP machine.

DH did not want the CPAP machine, so he has a dental device (not covered by insurance so we had to pay out of pocket-very expensive, but worth it).
I'm not kicking him every minute anymore, he doesn't snore anymore!

ETA: The dr. asked alot of questions before administering the test-
Are you tired driving?
Can you fall asleep reading/watching tv/at the movies?
Do you take naps?
Do you feel rested when you get up?
etc.
