Does a 2 year old need a real winter jacket?
Last year, DC never wore a "real" winter jacket. They both had heavier fleece jackets they wore. This way I didn't have to worry about taking them on and off for the car seats. But they also didn't walk anywhere, so it was really just in and out of the car.
But at 2 - is a heavier jacket a necessity? (They will be turning 2 Dec 30th.)

Maybe for when the "play" outside ( which they will probably be doing a little more of then last year)...But for in/out of the car- I think a thick fleece is probably just fine...The hat (or hood) will keep them warm

Last year, DS was two and we had the gaps warmest jacket. WASTE! However, a cheapo one is good for playing out in the snow in.

DD was 2 this past December. The only time she needed a real winter coat was to play in the snow.

I had a Carters one for last year that I got when DS was born. I loved it and definitely will be getting another one this year!

I agree with the others, just to play outside in. Plus, I am neurotic, so I kept it in the car when we didn't use it in case, god forbid, the car broke down, or something else happened that we had to be out in the cold unexpectedly, then she'd have a warm jacket.

If they're going to spend a lot of time outside, I'd get a warmer jacket. If they're just going to and from the car, I think you're fine with a lighter winter jacket.
