Does a cleaning at a ped. dentist really cost this much?
A few LIF friends have recommended that Broadway Smile. We have great health insurance but our dental insurance suck$. Anyway, I called them to make an appt and they told me the 1st appt for just the cleaning, exam and fluoride was $235 They submit the bill to our insurance and we will get a portion back but seriously, my cleaning and checks ups dont cost that much.

That's way too much. You should just find a doctor who doesn't require payment up front.
I don't pay a dime for my cleaning and have been with many dental plans. I have seen the bills sent to the insurance companies though and it's usually $50-70 per cleaning (that's how much the dentist's office gets).
My dentist is AWESOME and will eat the cost if the insurance doesn't cover something. He's in the city though but is so fabulous that even a Jersey girl like me don't mind the hike to see him.
It helps that his office close at 7pm and he has Saturday hours. :D
FM me if you need his info.

Yes... that' really how much it costs.
We got 80% back from insurance.
Last December, we took Thomas and my two step sons. The older boys also needed xrays. Cost over $1,000!

It's because they are a pdiatric dentist, they are considered a specialist. I worked for both a general dentist and a pediatric dentists and there are a big difference in price between the 2. Try going to a general dentist, at th office i worked at, it was less than $100 for a child prophy(cleaning) and they will bill your insurance directly.

The pediatric dentist I took Bella to did a full cleaning, flouride etc for $145.
She had 4 cavities filled in 2 visits. $150 each visit.
ETA - Everything was/is submitted to the insurance company for full reimbursment

DD's dental bill was $160 for a full cleaning plus a flouride treatment. It seems on the high side but don't think it's that unusual.

Ped dentists are crazy expensive. We don't have dental insurance, and I shelled out $1400 for my DD (cleaning and 4 cavities filled) and $500 for my son, who had a perfect check-up with no cavities. Needless to say, we are not going back to a ped dentist! They will see a regular dentist who takes our discounted dental plan.
