So in other words your "off the books" job will soon be "on the books"? UGH!
If that is the case I would negotiate a new salary so taking into account your new tax liability.

I think this is the answer. She probably just had her taxes done and is sorry she couldn't take the deduction. But, that's not your problem. I would simply raise my salary requirements telling her that the rate we are currently at didn't take taxes into account. GL

I agree. I also believe she has to pay in to your Social Security and Medicare taxes if she does this. I'm not positive though.

Re: Does anybody claim their daily babysitter on their taxes?
You should absolutely ask for a raise to make the transition. Having said that, personally I believe that going on the books is to your advantage. Off the books income is great in the short term but if you get hurt or become disabled either on or off the job, you are SOL. Find out if she will pay you on a W-2, which would mean that she pays unemployment insurance and workers' comp. insurance and puts aside money for Social Security or is she paying you on a 1099, which means it is up to you to pay the taxes.

I have a daily babysitter and don't plan on claiming her on the taxes---b/c in the end it will screw her (the babysitter). We calculated it out and it won't be that much of a difference since she gives us a great deal as far as price. You should definately try to charge her more then!

I would tell you have to charge more. My sister used to babysit a lot and if they were claiming it on their taxes, she just charged them more. If not, the rate was less.

I agree with everyone else. She'll have to pay more. Maybe you can speak to a financial person and see how much more you should be charging b/c of the tax situation?

I believe this is true. I am not doing this with my nanny because I'd have to pay more to justify her working for me which would negate the tax benefit.
