I rarely get them & if I do it's from my friends who write hysterical ones.

We get one from our newscarrier, who I've never met. It has details of her family members, etc. I think someone is way more into her job than when I was a 14 year old newspaper girl.

I enjoy reading them. I like learning what people are up to during the year. It so happens I get them from people I don't talk to or see frequently so it's even nicer to get the year in review.

One of the partners in DH's office sends out a Christmas newletter to everyone in the office updating them on his family. I find it very odd to send this to employees.

I love them! I love that people think that their lives are SO FANTASTIC that everyone they know wants to read about them! I love it! I would never in one million billion years write one, but I love to read them...especially if they belong to strangers.

Re: Does anyone actually enjoy reading those long holiday letters?

I pretty much hate them.

We got one one year from a guy I stopped talking to years back. WHY he sent me a 3 page typed letter with all of Sam's accomplishments stiff baffles me.

I just wouldn't take the time to explain to everyone how Johnny has learned to pick his own nose, or how he hides in the corner to squat and take a poop.

Lol..

You get my drift. I just don't think I lead an exciting enough life to recap the year and have everyone care! Lol!

My husbands family sends one every year and I love it!!! Most of his family is out of state so it is nice to see what everyone is up too. They include pictures and everything...we look forward to it every year!!!

it depends on who they're from... we get one from DHs uncle who we don't see much, and its nice to read his and hear what he and DHs cousins are up to. he usually puts interesting stuff in there about vacations they went on, etc.
BUT, my best friend sends one, and why she sends it to us, i have no idea- LOL. i talk to her about once a week, so i'm totally up on whats going on with her and her DH and son. shes like that with everybody, too... shes good about keeping in touch with people, so i'm not sure why she sends one out. and they are so religious, that literally every other word in it is "God". "well, Chris is still enjoying his job, but prays to God everyday to guide him through it" " and i'm still enjoying being a nanny-God has blessed me with great kids to look after" blah, blah, blah...

We have a cousin that still sends these out about his 30-37 yr old kids, I hate them. I see who it is from and know what it is and to tell you the truth, they go right in the garbage Chat Icon .

same for me!

Most of them are just a one page letter but last year i got a 3 pager from one of my sorority sisters...at first i thought...Ohh god...why is she writting so much? Then I started to read it and it has been a very hard year for her and her husband. She had a few surgeries and they found cancer in her. Chat Icon Thank god they got it all but without that letter, I never would have known...since Christmas is the only time we keep in touch!

Re: Does anyone actually enjoy reading those long holiday letters?

Whenever I have to write a note, or a thank you card, or something, I always write it in Alex's voice, and try to make it really funny (i.e. this morning I woke up and decided to jump on mommy's face. I don't know why she made such a big deal about it!") - but I also try to make it short and to the point, for that very reason.

I like them. I haven't received one that was over the top obnoxious yet. Even if I did, I'd probably just laugh about it.

Re: Does anyone actually enjoy reading those long holiday letters?

Depends on how they are written. My father receives two from two of his frat brothers from college (who are brothers actually). One of them is written so well, and is hysterical every year. I love it. The other is such a snoozefest.

Re: Does anyone actually enjoy reading those long holiday letters?

The last three I've read have either been overly personal (very descriptive about the teenage son in therapy for issues, when it's NO ONE'S business), somewhat obnoxious (and I quote "Little Katie is a mix of her siblings' personalities - stubborn and bratty like her brother and whiney and overly emotional like the twins." Chat Icon), or preachy (last year, we got a 2 page, single spaced, typed letter that totally misinterpreted a Bible passage...)

It just reminds me to NEVER send out one of these letters...

If I actually got a nice, short note that said what everyone was up to in a positive, nice way, I think I'd enjoy it. 2 pages misinterpreting the Bible or talking about your child's personal problems is not something I need to read.

Do not like them. It is almost like they are bragging, and that I do not like in a person. JMHO

My mom gets a few of them and I read them just to laugh.

They're always brag letters. Chat Icon One letter this year was a trip to Italy and where they visited, what they ate, what they drank. Pretty much everything but when they went to the bathroom. Its llike they are just the only ones who ever went to visit. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Then theres another one who brags every year pretty much about how great and succesful are children are. I cant even go into detail b/c its just sooo nauseating but comical! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I like them and find them amusing, even when they're a little obnoxious and boastful.

I much prefer them to a card that is simply signed, with no personal greeting whatsoever.
