Does anyone actually enjoy their commute???
I mean, we do it everyday, twice! Does anyone enjoy the travelling time to work???
I drive about 13 miles to work 4 days a week and I was thinking on the way home how much I love certain parts of my commute...like the fact that the planes fly really low over the road that I take everyday and I can always read the logos on the side, and that where I sit in traffic is next to a field of those Aberdeen Angus cattle and as the seasons go by the calves grow into big hairy cows. I love the valley that the parkway goes over especially when its frosty out and the little canal is all smokey with mist...
But in reality, its a miserable boring drive peppered with little gems! Anyone else???

My commute isn't nearly as picturesque as yours, but I don't mind it. I get to sleep!

I love the time I have to myself - that is the only positive.

Re: Does anyone actually enjoy their commute???
I don't mind it.
I get 1.5 hour of almost uninterrupted time to finish up work on the train so I don't have to do any at home, take a nap or catch up with a friend.

Re: Does anyone actually enjoy their commute???
When i lived in the city i didn't mind it so much. I acutally enjoyed all the little oddities of the subway.
And I really liked walking in the city too. If you got tired, bored or cold, you could always pop into a store and go shopping.

Re: Does anyone actually enjoy their commute???
It's much better now than when I lived in Northern VA and worked in D.C. I had an hour and a half commute that consisted of driving in traffic to the bus station, taking the bus to the metro station, taking the metro downtown, and then walking from the metro stop to my office.
Here in Colorado, my commute is 30 minutes. And it's only driving!

Re: Does anyone actually enjoy their commute???
I actually do. I used to work on Long Island and commuted by car - which I hated. I now live in Queens and work in the city. I take the express bus in the morning which is about a half hour door to door. I usually sleep or read - I find it to be very relaxing and nice to have some "alone" time! Coming home, I usually take the subway, which isn't as relaxing!!

I commute with DH now, so I enjoy it more than when I was trekking into NYC.

Re: Does anyone actually enjoy their commute???
I like my train commute. When the alarm goes off, I look forward to my nap that I'll get on the way in and I love that I get to read so many books.

Re: Does anyone actually enjoy their commute???
For a while, I had a 1.5 hour train commute into the city. I didn't love it, but at least I could sleep. Then, I switched jobs and drove 75 miles each way. I hated that commute, but it only lasted 3 months. Now that we relocated, I drive 15 miles each way, and it's so much more pleasant. I don't mind the commute, but I get frustrated by the bad drivers.

Same here. I don't get much of a chance to read at home and I love to read. I sometimes take naps as well, which is nice.

Re: Does anyone actually enjoy their commute???
If I get a seat on the subway i dont mind because I can read my book. If I have to stand for the 40 minutes, I spend the whole time enraged and dreaming about kicking everyone around me.

Re: Does anyone actually enjoy their commute???
I don't mind my commute into the and out of the city as much as I thought I would. I look forward to be able to go back to sleep once I'm on the train in the morning (although it's starting to give me a stiff neck) and then on the way home, I read or sleep or just listen to my music and unwind.

Re: Does anyone actually enjoy their commute???
I work on 84th and live on 52nd both off 2nd ave
my commute is a dream compared to when I was younger and commuted from my parents house in LI
I commend those of you who make this commute everyday. I truly do. I wish the MTA would make this commute a little easier.

Re: Does anyone actually enjoy their commute???
I have commuted all kind of ways
walking thru the city train driving
in the spring and summer- I love the walking thru the city- like someone else said- I would stop into stores and run all my errands on the way home
now I drive- it's better then the train for me- and if something is good on the radio- I don't mind it

Re: Does anyone actually enjoy their commute???
I have an 11 mile commute to and from work...most of that trip is one lane going south which can extend my trip by 5-10 minutes if there was an accident or some other inconvenience. The rest of the trip is on the Norther State Pky and it is quite lovely. In the spring when flowers and trees are in bloom...in the fall with the pretty foliage and in the winter, if it snows.
I don't mind my commute at all - I typically drive t on auto-pilot so I often try to take alternate routes (especially home and especially in the summer) to change thins up a bit.

Re: Does anyone actually enjoy their commute???
MOST of the time I actually find the train ride relaxing in the morning. The night is a different story and I just want to get home and it feels SO long.
Sometimes I miss driving to work - like this week I'm working out of our office in Melville. It is about a 35 minute drive. I've been enjoying it. I have my coffee and listen to the radio.

Re: Does anyone actually enjoy their commute???
I do kind of like it - I am going reverse commute and it is only a 20-30 min. drive. I like it after work, since it gives me a chance to decompress and time alone before I get home.
It also is waaaay better than commutes I have had in the past, so I enjoy it for that reason too.

Re: Does anyone actually enjoy their commute???
I've complained about the LIRR many times but for the most part my commute is pretty relaxing. Considering that I commuted by subway almost everyday since high school the LIRR is like a pleasure cruise. Then I only have to walk 2 blocks to work.
It's nice to be able to nap, read a book or enjoy a rare glass of wine on the ride home on Friday.

Re: Does anyone actually enjoy their commute???
I commute to the city everyday 3 hrs total a day..its exhausting!!!!!!!!! The only thing I like is that I sleep in the morning and usually on the way home. I did work in L.I. for a short time and I hated driving everyday -the traffic was crazy!

I loved my commute when I was going to school. I was rarely traveling during rush hour and I got some time to myself and could listen to anything I wanted on the radio!

Re: Does anyone actually enjoy their commute???
if i don't think about it, then i don't mind it because i can sleep (I'm in LIRR girl.) But when I do think about it, and realize how much time is lost in a day, then i don't care for it as much.

I do enjoy the time by myself...but I hate the traffic on the Cross Island, Grand Central and Whitestone Expressway everyday!
