I buy DD at Payless- they have really nice leather ones from Champion and come in wide and half sizes after size 4. I find they really hold up well and you can get a lot at the BOGO sales.

Honestly, my DD has only worn Payless and Target even when she was learning to walk and they were fine. She has never owned a pair of stride rites.

I've tried Target sneakers because they're so cute but they don't fit DD well at all- I always have to return them. She wears Stride Rite sneaks, but sandals from Target and Payless.

Same here! You can't beat the price especially for how quickly they grow out of them! Payless has a great selection too.
ETA that I would also check out century 21 if I were you. I used to make out like a bandit buying DS sneakers there. Namebrand for 1/4 of the price!

Re: Does anyone buy sneakers from Target...
Sorry I had to edit, I left so much out. Guess that happens when you are rushing.....
I sure do buy DS sneaks and sandals at Target......my DS has wide feed (he was a double wide, lol) some of their shoes are wide enough even if they don't come in wide. I did get his first walking shoes from Stride Rite and always have 1 pair of stride rite sneakers/sandals though. Also if you have MJM near you, they sell Stride Rite shoes as does Marshall's all at great prices. I found a great web site too Kidsurplus.com, they have Stride Rite at discount prices. You don't have to spend crazy money and you can still get good shoes. If you have a boy good luck, I have yet to find much of a selection at any of the stores....Target, Walmart, Payless, MJM

Re: Does anyone buy sneakers from Target...
i was told my my dr that it doesnt matter what shoes to put on kids, it doesnt have to be stride rite or any of those expensive shoes that are out there...as long as they wear shoes that have support, so yes i have bought from target, payless, babies r us, kohls, and DD hasnt had any problems (she is 2 1/2) she has had all different types of shoes and sneakers and she has never owned a pair of stride rite's ...i am NOT spending $40 or more on a shoe she would ware for 2 months!!!!!!!!!

I don't discriminate, honestly i will buy her shoes where they are affordable because she will outgrow them anyways.

Re: Does anyone buy sneakers from Target...
It sounds like I am NOT the norm....I have only bought DD shoes from Stride Rite (that she has worn).
WHen she was little (under a year old) I had bought her shoes from Target and it turned out they were completely the wrong size -- way too small. My judgement was totally off.
For that reason I prefer to go to Stride Rite where I know she is being fitted properly. I just feel like in our lives our feet go through a lot. We put a lot of pressure on them. She might not be putting a lot of stress on them know, but I still want to make sure that her shoes fit properly since you only get one pair of feet, in your life, if that doesn't sound silly enough!

I feel the same way. MY dd's shoes that she wears ALOT, especially sandals since she's in bare feet in those have come from stride rite.
I only buy dress shoes from target or BRU that i iknnow they'll only wear once or twice for a holiday or event.
She can def tell the difference too, she'll leave her stride rite sandals on forever the whole day, within an hour of putting any other shoes on, she kicks them off all the time.
For us, shoes are just one thing we won't cut back on and i've cut back on alot.
