Does anyone else feel guilty about the way they eat?
Normally, I'd beat myself up about the way I eat when it comes to keeping my weight down. And yeah I'm not proud of the extra weight I'm gaining in this pregnancy that's completely not necessary...but....
Here I am, dinner time, I can have a veggie burger. Instead, I can't even stomach the idea. I had to have pancakes. Chocolate chip, no less. Yesterday, I could have had a salad with grilled chicken. Instead I got a burger with fries.
I feel so guilty about this. I should be eating healthy for the BABY!!! This is not about me anymore. I should be eating WAY more veggies than I am. I try to incorporate them in my diet...but I swear since I was about 7, 8 weeks preggo, the idea of veggies just turns me off. I used to eat veggie burgers and veggie soup just about every day!
While I was TTC and just after BFP, I was so proud of my diet. I was doing everything right and it was FOR the baby. Right now, the best I do is the whole grains I eat, and I eat tons of fruit. But I always give in to what I 'feel' like eating, rather than what I should.
Am I alone here? I am so not proud of the way I'm eating. I'm just giving in constantly to what I feel like eating. I've never been this bad. And when it is most important for me to eat what's best, I'm not doing it!!!
Sorry for the rambling, I just needed to vent. I know I'll hear honestly from you. I'm tired of my friends going "Oh it's the one time you can eat like this- just go for it!"

I didnt see in your post how far along you are.... I wouldnt feel bad. I at enothing but MCDonald's for about 5 weeks straight for lunch and dinner when I was 1st tri. Carbs and fried foods were my friend.
Sometime even now I wish I ate more nutritional foods but I try not to get myself down on what I eat. I am just trying to survive to week 40.

I'm 18 weeks now. Yes it's all about carbs!!! That's all I want EVER. Carbs....chocolate...candy...cookies. At least I love fruit but that's about it. And at least I do go for some good carbs like oatmeal, and whole grain bread...

Re: Does anyone else feel guilty about the way they eat?
Yes - I feel like that. I am eating lots of fruit but I'm definitely not getting the right about of whole grains and protein. More often than not, the 'bad' foods are the easeist going down so therefore I opt for them. I used to live on salads but now rarely eat them because they're just not appealing. Yes - I do feel guilty!
However, I do think that if the choice is eat 'bad' or eat nothing (because anything 'good' makes you feel sick) then I would eat 'bad'. I need the energy to keep going and if I don't eat anything at all I start to feel extremely nauseous. I am going to start to make a concerted effort to eat better.
I know exactly how you feel!

Re: Does anyone else feel guilty about the way they eat?
Yesterday all I ate was sugar...a cupcake for breakfast, a smoothie and rasinets for lunch, and a donut after dinner. And I wonder why I was getting kicked all night??
Today I made a point to eat much better and ate a lot healthy although I still had to have my donuts!
I think it's fine...you have to eat what makes you feel better.

Thing is though, I have NO excuse. I haven't had a second of morning sickness. So what gives?
I guess I could just say the is asking for this diet!

Certain things I can't eat since being pregnant. In the beginning I couldn't eat vegetables at all. Now at 18 weeks I can sometimes. It depends on the day. I think as long as your overall weight gain is not too much then you are ok.

even as far as providing the baby with nutrients? All I'm feeding this kid is carbs, sugar....it's terrible!!
I would think I'm okay with weight gain...not even worried about that any more. What I'm concerned about is doing what's healthy for the baby. And I know I'm not doing that. Thank God for my prenatal vitamins! I did notice the pancake mix had a good amount of folic acid!

THe prenatal vitamins have lots of good stuff for the baby in them. Some days you eat a lot of carbs and some days you try to eat better. I think it all balances out.

Re: Does anyone else feel guilty about the way they eat?
I am 13 weeks and am feeling the same as you in regards to guilt.
I had all day nausea up until 2 weeks ago. Now the nausea is mostly at night, but the all day has been creeping back a bit this week. I have to be honest, I AM packing on pounds because my (bad) philiosophy has been either I eat what I can stomach or I don't eat. I was an avid lifetime member of WW and had to go on maternity leave from there. I am used to eating very healthy and am used to watching everything I eat. But so far during this pregnancy I have a lot of issues connected to food tolerance- nausea, reflux, and a very metallic/sour taste in my mouth. All of these factors leave me with food aversions- some are for the moment and some have been with me from the beginning- and food intolerances.
Right now, I feel like when I can force myself to eat healthy foods, I force them in, if it's too hard, I just eat what I can stomach at the moment- even if it is "unhealthy" because I figure I am better to eat the bad stuff than not eat at all . . . .
Hopefully, it will get better . . .

Don't beat yourself up. When I was preggers I felt like everything I ate was bad........ice cream, chocolate, fried stuff all the time in the beginning.........I think it's pretty normal and your baby will turn out just fine!

My name is Samantha and I can't stop eating Little Debbie Valentine's Cakes
They are white cake, white mousse type filling. I'm hooked. Seriously, I'm all carbs these days. Thank God it's clementine season, because that's my big nutrition.
It's fine, I'm trying to enjoy eating more indulgently for once!

You know what, that's pretty true. It's not like I refuse to eat veggies EVERY day. That was I guess maybe three-four weeks in my early pregnancy, then it went away. But now I'm kind of back to the veggies reaction! So maybe I won't be so avert to veggies for dinner tomorrow.
Thanks everyone, I do feel a little better!

sweety - the ONE thing i have learned through this pregnancy is that WE are not the ones steering this ship....we're not even in the passenger seat - we're like, in the WAY WAY back....(a term we used to use for the VERY back of the station wagon when we were kids)..
Right now - if you are craving carbs and things like you described....then it's what your body needs...

Re: Does anyone else feel guilty about the way they eat?
I feel the same way...all i wanted for the 1st trimester was carbs. and that's pretty much all I ate. but now I am feeling good and have really no food aversions anymore so I have no excuse. I also feel very guilty... My carb habit needs to go and I kind of realized that this weekend and made a conscious effort to eat more fruit and veg. I went to the grocery store today and stocked up so I think that will help me. Maybe try a big grocery shop to get you in the mind frame?

Re: Does anyone else feel guilty about the way they eat?
I felt really guilty in the beginning especially since I lost 60 lbs prior to getting pregnant. I went from a size 14 to a size 0/2. I only wanted healthy food, but once I get pregnant, that all went out the window. The way I see it know is I'll deal with it once my lil arrives.

Re: Does anyone else feel guilty about the way they eat?
It does balance out. I was the same way in my first Tri my poor husband had to deal with Pizza every single day for 10 weeks straight to the point that he had to have his own dinner because he could not look at pizza anymore!! LOL French fries were a big hit also but now at 19 weeks I have cut back on alot of the bad stuff.

Re: Does anyone else feel guilty about the way they eat?
This is me exactly!! I always choose healthier eating over bad!!! Now I can't stop myself!! Carbs, burgers, fries, Ice cream and pizza. It's gotten me so depressed that this week I vow to go back to eating good for me and baby. I dont wanna have to kill myself trying to lose 50 extra pounds after he arrives!!

Re: Does anyone else feel guilty about the way they eat?
Me! I'm all about the carbs and was like that with my first pregnancy as well. I gained 32lbs with DS. Not sure how much Im up this pregnancy so far, I think 5lbs or so (I had the stomach virus last week ) and with the loss of my mom and gram, I have been eating, but, not "good". Last night, I made a salad with dinner. I drink OJ every AM, I sometimes get on a "fruit kick", but, I'd rather have pretzels or chips.

Re: Does anyone else feel guilty about the way they eat?
Yes, I feel pretty guilty since I was eating very healthy before the pregnancy and now I feel like all I want is "bad food!" Or at least, fattening stuff!
However, I am telling myself to trust my body and that it must know what it is doing.... And I'm telling myself to put the vanity aside because the bigger I get, probably the better off these two babies will be... All that said, I still can't help feeling guilty sometimes!

Re: Does anyone else feel guilty about the way they eat?
As horrible as it sounds- the fetus is like a parasite- it takes from you whatever it needs. Yes, what you eat goes to the baby, but everything you ate has SOME nutritional content. The baby will be able to get plenty of what it needs- YOU just might lose out a bit.
I ate SO crappy through both pgs- with both babies born very healthy. I just always made sure to drink some fortified OJ (lots of nutrients) and took my prenatal religiously.
