Does anyone else's DC eat the board books?
All my DD's books are getting chewed to pieces!! I'm concerned with her eating all that paper? How do I get her to stop? No doesn't work. I take it away, but then she goes and gets another one.

Mine do too...I feel like it is a losing battle. I use to give them cloth books, but everything else still went in their mouths. When I see it, I distract them, but I find it funny that they don't use teethers, just chomp on everything else

Re: Does anyone else's DC eat the board books?
At DD's 9mo appt, the ped asked if she was reading' books. I told her she was chewing on them. Ped said that was good. Reading at this age is touching, chewing, etc. I let her chew away. She'll stop eventually. She has been slowly getting into looking at them and flipping the pages.
I inspect her books often. If they get in too bad of shape, I'll throw the book out but I haven't had toss any yet.

Not so much anymore, but I will say this, if your DC are chewing on the books beware of the plastic coating on some of the them. I found DDs playing with a huge piece of thin plastic that peeled from the back of one of their books. Thank goodness I heard it and was there!

Re: Does anyone else's DC eat the board books?
My DD used to be much worse with eating the books. She seems to have cut back a lot. I'm sure it's just a stage. I used to always tell her no mouth and pull the book away from her mouth and that seemed to help. DD really loves books.....turning pages, looking at the pictures and pointing. I think books are her favorite thing (outside of her lovey).

YES - I was about to say the same thing... children intially develop "book handling" skills before they learn to really sit and loko at the books - and part of book handling skills is playing with the books and chewing on them!!!

Oh Yes...she'd eat them so much that they would get all gross and I had to toss a few. Id say "no mouth" - - eventually, she caught on and doesnt do it much anymore.

Its so crazy how this is their initial beginning of reading...by CHEWING
