does anyone ever feel like they have "stuff" everywhere in their house?
My house is clean but I just feel like I have so much "stuff" everywhere.
We have a small ranch but no storage...like I don't have a junk drawer or enough places to put things, so they are in random places all over my house and I just cannot stand it!
I sometimes walk into others homes and think where are all of their "things".....
(jlddolphins pretty home prompted my question lol)
does anyone know what I mean?

We had cat toys all over the floor and it drove me crazy. So I went to Target and got a nice floor basket that is meant for magazines. But it worked perfectly. Maybe you can get baskets and containers at Target that are both functional and pretty. I think Ikea also has a nice selection. This way your things are organized and also look nice.

 Oh if you could see my office/3rd bedroom at home right now.
Well I have thrown a lot of things out over the years, things that I just don't need or want. Things that don't serve a purpose. I think, the the OP said, if you get baskets, even baskets that have lids on them or containers that are not see through. Place like things in the baskets/containers. You could put shelves up and have this containers on the shelves, out of the way and they still look nice and no one but you and DH know whats in them. It's a great way to stay organized. Then you can add a couple of pieces of decor to the shelves and it looks really nice.

I totally know what you mean. I feel like not matter how much i get rid of or how much i clean there is always too much crap. Now with Christmas coming up I'm freaking out because I know DD will be getting a TON of stuff from family and we have no where to put it!!

For me it is papers. I have a lot of trouble throwing paper away. I always think I might need some receipt or coupon so I keep them. We don't have a study so I don't feel like I have a good place for paper storage.
As for stuff, do you mean chotchkes or furniture?

Yes! I feel that way about clothes. No matter where I look there is clothes everywhere. I recently bagged 4 trash bags of my kids clothes and we still have more.
My goal while I'm out for Christmas break is to purge and organize.

mine is like papers, books, coupons,dish towels, keys, pens just stuff.....no chotckes (although during christmas it is lol)
& clothes, god I give away clothes like every 6 month.
Maybe b/c my bakers rake, is out in the open and there are things that normal people with storage would keep away but mine is out (wine opener, placemats, napkin etcc. etc)
UGH, drives my bonkers and i try so hard lol

No! I am so anal about no clutter I throw out/donate anything that I don't use often.
However there is always 1 pile in the kitchen of mail. That irritates me.

Having a cleaning lady made me organize better. I found I wasn't spending the time cleaning that I used to, so everything found a place.

YES!!!!! I hate it. For me it's paper... I have so many papers I don't know what to do with. I always think I'm going to need something. And now that my DD thinks it's fun to throw my papers around I really need to get on top of things.
When I was pregnant and nesting, I threw everything away. My house was perfect. I want that urge back -- that no guilt, no second thought, throw it away instinct, to come back.

yup! I feel like a lot of my things don't have a home! there is stuff everywhere . ds is really bad about throwing things out that he doesnt' need. it's something that I really need to start focusing on so I can get more organized

well,I'm ttc soooo maybe my nesting skills will kick in sooner (praying sooner! lol) and I wont be so cluttered with papers and god only knows what!!

DH and I are both a little sloppy, and some of our stuff doesn't have a permanent place yet, so I always feel like this place is cluttered. I always have to clean up stuff before I can do actually cleaning. It drives me nuts! I am so much happier when everything is nice and neat, but we're so bad about keeping it that way.

I might not be the neatest person in the world, but DH is a pack rat!!!! If he got rid of all the junk in the spare room and garage, it would be great!!!
Oh, plus he has one of those storage garage thingies too!

Yes! And especially if you have kids (I have 3) - I feel like all I do is walk around trying to put stuff away. It drives me nuts - my kitchen island is never empty and my DH is zero help in that respect. He sees nothing wrong with leaving something that belongs elsewhere right there. I'm not anal or a neat freak but it is slowly making me insane. Sometimes stuff doesn't have a place...but I keep believing someday it will all have a place. Maybe a junk bin in a closet or basement for random stuff? At least it can all be contained. I also use lots of bins. Even if they are out, at least there is a place for the stuff.
Sometimes the only solution is throwing stuff out or giving it away. I wish I had the world's largest garbage bag sometimes

YES. I always think that..when I go to someone's house or even when people post pics on here, I'm like...do they live in a museum or just have a full time maid?? My house is always "lived-in" but we keep it clean enough in the event we have unexpected guests. Our problem right now is that our house is an older house...built in the 1930s and the closet space is meant for the days when people had a Sunday best outfit and a few other outfits for during the week...

I feel the same way. We clean our house on saturday and then by sunday there is stuff all over the place, including papers and just stuff. We dont have a basement and hardly any closet space. So I know how that is....I go to other peoples houses and I wonder where all their stuff is and if there house is always this clean....

Me too. I find that in order to keep up, you have to do something every day so that the mess doesn't build up. I've found that if you find a place for everything, it makes keeping the house neat and organized easier. Also before I buy anything, I ask myself..Do I love it? And before I get it, I have to know exactly where it's going to be placed in my home. Stores like the Container Stores are like Nirvana for me.: I always check their ideas to keep organized or magazines like Real Simple for tips.

I ALWAYS wonder where other people keep their cr@p!!!!!
I'm a terrible pack rat, I have trouble throwing out papers and getting rid of things even if I know that I have no use for it.
Its really hard for us because we are in a small apartment with tiny closets ... and we're pretty limited with what we can do here.
I've been trying really hard to be better ... I keep telling DH that I want to make our apartment "more grownup" (translation: NEAT!)
We actually both took off a couple of days from work so we can re-organize things here before I get swamped at work in January! Its just too much to do during the week -- as it is right now, I feel like I spend every minute I have at home either cleaning!
