Does anyone follow an "extreme" diet? (Update)******
I was recently diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. I am trying to remove foods that cause inflammation. They are: gluten, dairy and night shades. I also stopped my 20 year Diet Coke addiction and now only drink water.
It was very difficult at first, but I think that it is getting better.
Does anyone follow a diet that is very different than family/friends?
How long have you done it?
Do you plan to continue?
Do you feel that it really is beneficial to you?
*****Update*********
It's almost been 1 month. I have not had: gluten dairy nightshades Diet Coke
I don't feel any different. I do not notice any improvement in the arthritis, but I heard that it may take 3 months to see any changes.
Of all the things that I have given up, I miss the Diet Coke the most. I was hard core addicted for 20 years. I have dreams about drinking it.

Yes, I follow a vegetarian and paleo diet. It is far different than almost all of my friends and my family (in particular my husband). I have done it for a very long time. I mean it wasn't always paleo. I was strict vegan for a year and have been veggie for many years. I do plan to continue because it is extremely beneficial to me.

Re: Does anyone follow an "extreme" diet?
I do, Also for health reasons. I don't eat meat or gluten. I try not to eat too much dairy, and I only drink water. Occasionally I have wine or Starbucks, and I can feel it right away.
I've been doing it for almost a year. I do feel a lot better but it's not a cure all. I plan to continue forever, and if I can become even more restricted. I would like to eventually go vegan, maybe after the new year. I started slow. I cut out drinks first and didn't feel any change. I cut out meat and I stopped throwing up, which I had done for 65 days in a row before that. Tmi, lol. Then I cut out gluten and I had more energy, lost weight, etc.
I think it's worth a try.

I guess others would call it extreme but I pretty much eat a clean, natural diet. I do feel it has benefitted me and it is different than my family and most friends. I'm fine with that though and ignore certain comments. I don't force my way on others and refuse to have others to it to me. Whenever I go somewhere, I bring a dish, usually an app and it goes over well. People then become more open minded.

I wouldn't call it extreme but I am vegetarian and eat a whole food, plant based diet with as many organic items as possible. Other then not eating meat, I try to avoid refined sugars and flours and not go too heavy on dairy or gluten.

I am on a gluten free diet- I found out a few years ago that I am intolerant. It was tough at first- The only things I really miss are pizza and bagels. I did not eat them frequently but I still miss them. I will remain gluten free.

I don't consider it extreme either- but I eat like this as well- but I do eat some fish

Re: Does anyone follow an "extreme" diet?
I try to eat whole foods as much as possible. I eat very little gluten and dairy. I have more energy and feel happier mentally. I notice if I eat a lot of processed foods/junk foods/sweets, I start feeling depressed and have brain fog.
Once you get into a routine, it's not so bad. Let us know how it goes!

. You mention eliminating those foods but what else are you eating instead ? Are you doing lots of nutrient dense whole foods ? I feel like it is more than just eliminating, it is adding on :)

My husband and I have started to follow the Bulletproof Diet. It's a modified paleo diet. It's all about good fats, low carb, cutting out toxic health-sapping foods. We love it so far. We've cut out wheat, carbs, gluten, sugar, soda, processed food. Replaced them with veggies, good fats like organic grass-fed beef or bacon, fish. My husband has had digestive issues for a while, but being on this diet has fixed it. We have so much more energy. www.bulletproofexec.com

It will take at least 2 months to notice a change. Gluten takes a while to work its way out of your system.

When I went gluten free I did not really notice a difference until I was accidentally served something containing gluten in a restaurant- I became sick within about 30 minutes. I noticed that you have added a few products that contain rice or rice flour (rice milk, Udi's and live good cookies) keep in mind rice/rice flour is NOT nutrient dense and there has been a lot of controversy about high levels of arsenic in rice especially US produced rice. You may want to limit these products to 1-2 times per week. Almond milk is a good alternative to rice milk and one serving has 45% of the recommended calcium intake for the day.

Re: Does anyone follow an "extreme" diet? (Update)******
I recently started following a No Sugar No Grains (NSNG) diet. It is a lot like Paleo, I think. The one thing I noticed a difference with is within two weeks I no longer had swollen ankles, a condition I had since I was pregnant with DC #1! I haven't really lost any weight on it, but the ankle remedy alone makes this diet worth it to me!

Go have one glass of diet coke, and see what happens.
I stopped drinking all sodas (always drank diet) and Had one the other day and had such stomach pains! I felt like crap. Did it again a week later, same thing.
