Does anyone have a gas dryer?
Do you smell gas when you run it? That's not normal, right?!
The house we moved into has the vent to the dryer UNDER the backyard deck... I'ts a little weird to me. My kitchen window is right above that so I smell it in my kitchen...

Never.
I'd get someone in to look at it as a precaution.
I can't help but think of recent events in the media where people smelled gas but didn't follow up....

I agree we never smell gas when we are drying clothing.
Definitely call someone.

My guess is it's not gas but the smell of the lit. I'd clean out the vent

There should be no smell... but my house had the same setup sort of w/ the vent... our kitchen is extended and underneath that extension is crawlspace/storage area... the old owners of our house had the dryer vent out into there, which we knew couldn't have been good. So we extended the dryer vent pipe to the nearest outside wall... having a long dryer vent is probably not ideal but I really was not thrilled of having it vent out to underneath the house in a crawlspace area.

Have you done painting/staining of floors recently? We had this issue when we FIRST got our dryer, but it was due to the fact that we had also just stained our floors (all of them) - the stain and paint can get into the gas dryers differently than with electric and can make them smell like gas... it went away after a few weeks (the stain and poly were applied with my father's extremely heavy hand).
