Since you are in the Ed field already, how about Corporate Training?
Tried looking into it.... haven't found much. That would be a great position!

I work as a recruiter. I had no exp. or training in this field and was hired on the spot. In 9 mths I have increased my salary by $8k per year and I have offers from other company's that want me all the time. It's great field for advancement but there is a ceiling you can hit and it'd not for everyone.
If I ever get burnt out I'll prob. go into HR for a large corp.
Could I ask how you got into it or where to apply for such a job?

The only qualifications for my job are patience and more of it. My Economics degree has come in real handy

From what I have heard, you don't want to work for Katherine Gibbs...It is run more like a company with bonuses for how many "students" you recruit, and I believe the base salary is really low. It's not like doing regular college recruiting.

That would explain why thee call NON-STOP once they have your phone number. A friend of mine had to almost threaten them to stop calling her. The more students they get, the more $.

One of my coworkers was an Admissions Rep for Briarcliffe and this is how it worked also. He said because it is run by a for-profit company they are more concerned with the number of students admitted than the quality of students.
Did you get a callback from Score? It's a great company, I considered working there before I started at Kaplan.
Oh, and DH used to work in Corporate Training, so I know a bit about that too. The problem is that when companies begin cutbacks, the trainers are the first to go. A lot of companies, such as Wamu where DH works, are switching over to outside companies like Accenture, which specialize in training and eliminating their own training departments.

Have you tried educational book publishers? I've heard of people who have left teaching and gone into editing/reviewing, etc.
Best of luck!
YES! This is what I did. I was a teacher for 3 years and I hated it. I was in the same situation as you - what else could I possibly do with a teaching degree?? I am now a content editor in eductational publishing - it was a perfect crossover. I had absolutely no experience with editing/publishing - they hired based on my teaching experience.
ETA: I interviewed for Score at the same time I was looking into ed. publishing- that must have been the most grueling interview process I have ever experienced - not worth the money they were going to offer me!!

Good to know about Katharine Gibbs- I will go anyway to see what they say (at this point its better than nothing)... I got a rejection from Score, unfortunately, although I really wasn't thinking too seriously about it once I heard the salary and hours...
I sent out a bunch of stuff today so hopefully i'll hear something! I'm also going to spend some more time looking into some of the educational books... thanks!

I work in college administration as well.....and love my job. I have a BA in Communications and then went on for a masters in counseling to move up the ladder. I also teach in the college setting and enjoy that as well.
Good Luck Jennie. There is lots you can do at colleges/universities.

Re: Does anyone have a job they didn't need specific schooling or experience for?
There are always ads in the paper for recruiters from Gibbs and briarCliffe, which made me think it can't be that great job if they're always available. And I remember someone said once "the crappier the school, the crappier the job" if you work in admissions...

Re: Does anyone have a job they didn't need specific schooling or experience for?
Thanks everyone. I have been looking at a lot of the local colleges but I am going to try to do a search to find all of them. I am also on higheredjobs.com, but haven't found much on there I can do yet.
I will let you know how it goes tonight!!
