Re: Does anyone have a new Jeep Wrangler 4 door? Rubicon or not...
I had a 2 door rubi up until DS was born - now we have a 4 door rubi
the pros are that you can drive over anything you want - it's definitely a fun drive - the inside can be hosed down (there are plugs in the floor) and the fabric is stain proof
the cons are that it's a very bumpy ride (the x or sarhara tires aren't as chunky so it's more of an SUV type of ride) - it's very plastic-y inside - it's very high to get into which if you have kids it will be a PITA - when I was pregnant i needed a stool to get in (the rubi doesn't have side bars but the x or sarhara do)
imo it isn't very practical - but we love ours.. so it can't be that bad! hth! any questions feel free to ask

Re: Does anyone have a new Jeep Wrangler 4 door? Rubicon or not...
we had a 2007 jeep wrangler sahara. just got rid of it this past september.
pros:
- it is a tank! you can drive over anything, and i felt safe in ANY weather. -it was a soft top, and come the summer it was always great to cruise around with the top down. -we had the 4WD that you could turn on and off. -interior was durable for kids. no matter what our ds threw we never had a problem cleaning it up.
cons:
-it was terrible on gas. -it really did feel like you were driving a tank. it was bumpy and rough on the road. -the soft top did leak in heavy rain. nothing too serious, bc the interior was meant for water and such. but it was annoying to get in it in the rain and have a dribble on the driver side window. -you MUST make sure you learn to put the top down right. if you don't , it will wear on it, and you will have some expensive problems. you cannot just throw it down and go.
overall it was a great, affordable car. my dh was sad to see it go! maybe one day we will have another one!
HTH!

Re: Does anyone have a new Jeep Wrangler 4 door? Rubicon or not...
Thanks guys!!!
We have a Jeep Liberty right now and space wise with 2 kids its awful! He has been suggesting the Jeep Wrangler or Rubicon 4 door. We currently lease so we're looking to roll the Liberty into something.
I for one would LOVE a Wrangler or a Rubicon, but I don't think it's practical with kids. I'm worried about the bumpiness of the ride as well.
As far as space, storage, how to do you feel?

HTH!
true! both my 2008 and now my 2010 leak. it's annoying but its a price you have to pay for a car where you can take the doors/windshield/top off.

We haven't had that problem...yet, lol.
I love the Wrangler, but I spend so much money on gas, and it is pretty bumpy. It's been good this winter though since we never felt stuck even when our road wasn't plowed. I wouldn't call it a very practical automobile, but it's defintely fun.

you can really fit ANYTHING in that truck. you've got space length and width wise, so while there are a few downsides, the storage is awesome. and the seats go down too of course.

Re: Does anyone have a new Jeep Wrangler 4 door? Rubicon or not...
We have a 2008 4dr Sahara, it is our 3rd car and like people have already stated it is great in all weather, including this snow.
It isn't exactly a comfy ride but it isn't bumpy (our friend has a 2005 and ours has a better ride).
One thing I didn't know until I put the kids in it one HOT(100 degree day) summer day was there are not ac/heat vents in the back. I guess if you don't mind driving with the windows down all the time it isn't a big deal but it was just so hot and humid and I felt terrible because it wasn't really cool in the back. After that I never took it out durning the day again. My kids love riding in it because my DH rolls all the windows down and opens the back window (we have a hard top with panels).

That is exactly the reason why I think it's VERY practical.
The Wrangler is awesome. It is literally unstoppable in the snow. The gas mileage sux but when you buy an SUV that is expected. With lack of gas mileage you get a HUGE truck. You can haul a ton of cargo. Tons of room. Also the 4 door wranglers are much less bumpy over the previous generation 2 door models.
They are also very cheap and sell at the dealers for way under invoice. You can get a fully loaded Sahara model for around 30k.
Also the 4 door wrangler is WAY less bumpy

Re: Does anyone have a new Jeep Wrangler 4 door? Rubicon or not...
we have a 2008 4 door wrangler x. we absolutely LOVE it. sure, it is no frills and doesn't have many (if any) bells and whistles, but it's a wrangler. we have the dual top, which i highly recommend. it has been so awesome this winter with the snow (we live in Queens, and have to look for parking... DH liiterally drives over huge snow banks to park it with no problem). I take it up to Vermont, and in the summer it's an awesome beach car with the top off. We never had issues with the soft top leaking. Plus, it's a hot car.
we love it and not sure how it will be with kids, but we'll find out in a few months.

This is how the Liberty is too and I hate it. I don't understand why there wouldn't be vents in the back of the car... esp in 2011!! LOL
Thanks for all the info!!!

Re: Does anyone have a new Jeep Wrangler 4 door? Rubicon or not...
DH has one! He just got a 2009 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited, and I told him the only way he could get it was if it had 4 doors!
It's basically his toy, but I have driven it. Both my kids are in booster seats, so they have no issues with sitting back there. They have plenty of room and the seat is plenty big enough.
It's a great, FUN car for the summer. It has both hard and soft tops and the top also comes completely off. It is bumpy, but it handles well. It's been awesome in the snow.
The gas mileage is so-so. Here's my cons: the back door swings open to the side, which can be a pain. I feel as though there is a ton of space in the back, but access to it seems limited with a roll bar right across the back. So you have to lift your packages over it or try and slide them under it. Just real awkward.

Another thing is the back seats are very narrow and I really don't know how a rear facing carseat would fit. I asked DH what he thought and he didn't think it was great for kids in carseats. My 2 have high back boosters in there.
We have the one that Trish posted and I also agree about the doors. They do not stay open so you open it and it swings open back on you, so that is annoying. Again, it is fun but I am not sure I could drive it as a primary car.

What rollbar are you talking about? You should be able to swing the door open and lift the glass window with no obstructions.
Does your Jeep also have the soft top? Your picture shows a hard top. Did you remove the soft top from the car when you bought it?

Yes, you swing the door open and then you can lift the glass. I think it's the soft top all rolled up?? It's my DH's baby, I just drive it. I know there is something in the way when you go to put packages in the back!
Ok! So it's not a roll bar, and it's wrapped a lot tighter than this, but this is what I am talking about!

Yes, you swing the door open and then you can lift the glass. But there is a bar there, I am not 100% sure, but I think it's the soft top all rolled up?? It's my DH's baby, I just drive it. I know there is something in the way when you go to put packages in the back!
you should take the soft top out when you have your hard top on. makes life much easier
eta - when you pick up your jeep and you have a dual top package thats where they store the soft top - but we always take ours out. it's a bit of a pain bc you have to lift the hard top up to do it.

I just figured that all out! I have no idea why DH has the soft top in there... I guess lack of a "storage spot" in our garage since we have a lot of construction going on now.

Re: Does anyone have a new Jeep Wrangler 4 door? Rubicon or not...
LOL
You are supposed to remove the soft top if you bought the Jeep with both tops and plan on keeping the hard top on.
They actually say it's required as driving with both tops can damage the soft top (I don't see how this is possible however it's what Jeep says).
There should have been a big sign when you bought it that says "do NOT drive with both tops installed".
When you remove the soft top, you will find you have a crazy amount of room. It's awesome!

I am smitten with the new 4-door
DH is on the fence abut it. My lease is up in 10 months..... I just might have to go for it.
