does anyone have bunk beds? or thinking about it?
We went to behrs today (to look at them) and DH fell in love with these bunk systems:
I totally agree, it seems like a great idea, but
1. I'm not sold on the look of this brand - any other options that people know about
2. safety. My kids are crazy and I'm sure they will jump (and rebound) off this. We went to look at bellini too, but they don't sell them for safety reasons.
We need to get 2 twin beds (since DS has a full in his room right now and his brother is moving in and there isn't room for a twin side by side) and we are having trouble finding a second matching dresser (his set was discontinued), so this might be cost and space effective.

we got one with stairs from bob's. I saw those and was scared when they said wow we can jump from the top to the bottom. I also wanted stairs because I felt it was safer at night. They love them. The style of the bed we got I like better too.

We have a super cheap set that we picked up at K-Mart. Rob anchored it to the wall. It's a traditional bunk bed. The only issues we've ever had was that they have (in the past) argued over who gets the top.

Re: does anyone have bunk beds? or thinking about it?
We got a traditional set at furn-a-kit a few years ago. DD was 3 and DS was 2. DD is very mature for her age and goes on top. Now at 4, DS is finally allowed to go on the top to sit and read with DD or watch a movie together. They are usually pretty careful with them. We only had a few slips up/down the ladder, never from the top.

Re: does anyone have bunk beds? or thinking about it?
i had bunk beds when I lived at home and shared a room with my sister. We got them when she was 19 and I was 25 LOL. It was an A frame bed with a twin on top and full on the bottom.
I have FORBIDDEN them in my home because putting sheets on and making the top bunk is a PITA.

Re: does anyone have bunk beds? or thinking about it?
we got ours at casco kids. the brand is matrix.
DS wanted bunk beds but our bedrooms will not allow bunk beds so we went with a loft bed, with a dresser and bookshelf under. plus our rooms are on the smaller side. the other pictures show some of the other ways to set up these beds.
the great thing is when he is too old for bunk beds. the dresser is a self contained piece, it does not need to be under the bed. the bed can drop down to a regular twin bed. the book case can also be used alone. plus it comes in a nice dark, cherry-ish color! Image Attachment(s):

Re: does anyone have bunk beds? or thinking about it?
I don't have bunk beds, but my son has a loft bed. It has a pull out trundle on the bottom if we ever need an extra twin for a sleep over or anything. We went this route for space in his room, it's tiny and the loft system has book cases, a desk area and lots of drawers in it as well. It's a well made piece of furniture, but I am not sure of the brand since we got it second hand from another LIFer's neighbor! It's such a beautiful set!
But ...

THIS. OMG, changing the freaking sheets up top, especially when the bed is in a corner and up against a wall, making access to it hard! I break a huge sweat contorting my body while getting up on the bed to make it!

Re: does anyone have bunk beds? or thinking about it?
I can see the jump factor but I can also see it being a novelty and with age and familiarity, it wears off. But that bed will take up a lot of room. I think many people buy bunks or lofts thinking they will make more room but many times they take up so much cubic space, the room seems smaller. If you have a big bedroom, it's not an issue but if it's an average or even slightly larger room, I would try to get the exact size and stack boxes or do something to give you an idea of how much room it will take up. Trust me, that's why there are so many bunks & lofts on craigslist. Same with sectionals LOL
haha the top bunk sheet! My boys have a bunk bed and their top bunk is not too bad. DD has a loft and yikes! talk about a PITA! I actually have DH unscrew the side rail and lift the mattress down to change the fitted sheet.

Re: does anyone have bunk beds? or thinking about it?
After going back and forth, I decided to let my boys share a room. We ordered bunk beds this past weekend. My nephew has the bed you posted by Berg. My SIL is very happy with the selection. I looked at that particular bed but decided against it a) because my nephew has it and b) I didn't love the look. We also looked at Bob's and Raymour. I wasn't crazy about their beds since most of their bunks were made of pine.
We ordered bunk beds by Maxtrix. Ours is similar to the one in pic except it is twin over full (chestnut color) with the slide and much taller. We also added the castle kit which I'm sure they will grow tired of real fast. Thank god it is removable. My DH insisted on ordering the whole kit plus the slide because he thought it was cool.

Re: does anyone have bunk beds? or thinking about it?
Not sure what happened to my last post.
That is the one we got Erica. The quality is good, not excellent, but we were happy with it. It does not have dove tailed drawers but it seems sturdy.
Being that there are stairs, it makes it so much easier to change the top sheet. I changed their both beds, switching the comforters and all of the stuffed animals and assorted stuff they each have in their bed and I was finished in 30 minutes, doing it all by myself. I spent more time arranging the stuffed animals then anything else.
