It's hit or miss with my DD. She's never consistently STTN for more than a couple of weeks at a time. She's almost 1.5

Re: Does anyone just have a child that does not STTN
Oh yes. We've been working on his sleep for months. The best night we have ever had has been when he sleeps from 7:30-3:15, nurses, and then sleeps again until 7. If every night was like that I would take it, but more often than not he's up at least twice during the night.

yes. how old is your child? He is going to be 17 months next month. He had a spurt of maybe two solid months where he slept through most nights. Now he is back to not. We have literally tried it all and I just don't know what to do. I think he just may not sleep through end of story. Feeling pretty hopeless

Yes - and he's 7.
I am a poor sleeper too, so I guess he got my genes

Does anyone just have a child that does not STTN
She's 5 and she STTN but something can wake her up. She didn't STTN until after 2. It went up and down from there. I think by 3 it was all settled. We let her sleep wherever she'd fall then move her into her room. By that point we just didn't care. All them fancy parenting rules looked so pretty and dignified from a distance but up close in reality they just didn't matter. We got sleep, she got sleep, we all survived!
It did get better.. all on its own.

DS didn't sttn until over 2 years....we'd have days where it would happen but now it's consistent. He got there all on his own.

Re: Does anyone just have a child that does not STTN
My DS is 18 months and still doesn't sttn. He doesn't wake us anymore, just stays in this crib and plays with his hands or lays flat trying to fall back asleep but he can be up for hours at a pop. I watch him on the monitor and I feel so bad bc he looks so tired but just is awake. Im going to mention it to his ped. next week. He may just be a kid that doesn't sttn

Re: Does anyone just have a child that does not STTN
DD didn't STTN until she was about 14 months old. That first time she did, I was almost scared because it had never happened before!!But at almost 2 years old, it is still only 50/50. She does STTN some nights but a lot of them she still wakes every hour or so. I'm so used to it at this point, I don't even wish/hope/dream for the day where we will get a good night of sleep...

He can still be teething.
If you are saying that he NEVEr slept thru the night....... I would ask if he is up to everything else his level.
Maybe something else going on

Up to like his milestones? yep. Walks, talks, climbs, etc etc etc. He is getting some teeth but I feel like it can't constantly be teeth. It's frustrating to say the least, I just don't know what to do , or if I should just accept it

Does anyone just have a child that does not STTN
DD didn't sttn until 16 months. After that she did pretty well but an off day can still throw her off. If she misses her nap, is teething, is up really late, is away from me most of the day, if we go away, etc. Really anything can set her back. I used to bring her into my bed but I really get very little sleep if I do that. If I left her in the crib she would just whine on and off for over an hour and I would end up giving in. What finally seemed to have worked is that I go in and pick her up, sing her a lullaby exactly like at bedtime and then put her back in the crib and let her CIO. I feel better that I checked on her and no she's okay and she seems to get the message that I was there and left and am not coming back in and she usually goes back to sleep within 10-20 minutes. After a night or two of that she stops waking altogether. The other thing I changed is resisting the urge to bring her in my bed if she wakes up at 5:30 or 6 in the morning. I suck it up and we just get up. I think doing that was no different to her than if she woke at 3 am and expected to be brought into our bed. Since these few changes, things have been good but we'll see next time she's out of her routine if she wakes again.

This makes me feel so much better. DS just turned 3 and he never STTN. Well, maybe once in a blue moon. It sometimes feels like it will never get better, but I don;t try that hard anymore.
I would like for things to just click and him to stay in his room all night, but I won't hold my breathe just yet

Does anyone just have a child that does not STTN
Yes. DS is 2 and is up 3-4 times a night and we bed share!! It would be way worse if we didn't. I have tried everything. I am an insomniac and up multiple times a night on my own so needless to say I am constantly exhausted. I just pray he grows out of it soon. I worry so much that he inheritied my sleep issues.

Does anyone just have a child that does not STTN
Ahhhh... I needed this tonight. Thanks ladies. DS is 18 months and I can count on one hand how mAny nights he's slept through the night since he's been born. He's up 2-3 times a night. One of those times is usually a good hour or so. I'm not sure if is separation anxiety, nightmares or eat, but something has to give. I'm 21 weeks pregnant.
I'm tired, frustrated, and feeling like a failure.
Based on some good advice and feedback here, I consulted a sleep trainer. We start in the next few days. Just waiting to do our consultation call.

Re: Does anyone just have a child that does not STTN
My DD is almost 20mos and she has always been an awesome sleeper overall, BUT she wakes 2-3x a night. Only 1x a night is rare for us. 2-3x is normal and 4-5x if she is sick. I nurse her and she goes right back down so that is the good part. I cannot wait until she just sleeps and doesn't wake up. I rarely dream because my sleep is so disrupted.

my 1st didn't STTN until 15 months. It was a LONG 15 months, as you are feeling yourself right now i'm sure.
For him, the key was consistency and schedule. My inlaws watched him up until that point and they didn't believe in naps, they didn't stick to our schedule and it was a nightmare. He'd be up 3-5 times at night. At 15 months we started sending him to a sitter instead and just like that... sttn!!!! She had a very strict routine/schedule and that's what he needed.
So of course- how is his schedule and nap routine?
