Does anyone know if I change my name on my passport

Does anyone know if I change my name on my passport
does it automatically extend it for 10 years like a renewal too or do you have to do a renewal with name change?
My current passport is in my maiden name and it expires July 2010 and we are going away in Nov. DH put the ticket in my married name so I need to change it.

I believe you do a name change and a renewal on the same form. I am in the same situation..My passport expires Sept 2010 and I am renewing it now for a trip in Oct of this year and changing my name on it at the same time. At least I HOPE that's how it's going to work!

I believe you have to renew it in order to change the name. I didn't change mine because I didn't want to pay the price of the renewal until it has to be renewed.
We just recently went on a cruise out of Puerto Rico and I bought my marriage license along with my passport. Although no one even asked to see the license. It was no problem for me at all.

i just did it. my tickets were put in my married name as welll, so i had to change over my passport.
You cant just change your name on your passport, you have to reapply for a new one, with your new name. They sent me a brand new passport and mailed me back the old one.
There is an application at the post office, there are 2 diffferent ones. make sure you get the one for name change. you will have to do everything you did the last time, plus send in your old passport and your marriage license. You will also have to pay the fee. I filled it out on my own put everything in the envelope and mailed it. When i did it the first time i had to wait online etc, for this i didnt need an appointment or anything.

maybe because it was PR but i dont think most places will accept that now.
