does anyone know WHICH insurance co will cover formula?
we know which insurance we're getting as of Sept 1, I was just wondering if anyone would be willing to tell which insurance they have that has covered formula.

Shana it depends on what level of coverage your company selects. We could both have United Healthcare and it may be covered for you and not for me. You have to look at each specific plan.
If they are giving you a hard time, get Apria involved (do a search on here for the toll free number) They know who to talk to and what to say if your insurance company is being denied and it seems like on here they have gotten many people covered.

Actually, now that I think about it, ask your doctor if they know what the laws in your state are. In NY I believe that there is a law that if your baby needs it to survive it must be covered. There are a few expections, I know Rachel was having to pay for Neocate out of pocket (which is awful )

Yes, call Apria...they got back to me in less than 24 hours to tell me that my insurance covered it. It does depend on the type of coverage...not just the company.

It isn't every formula, ones like Nutrimagen and Neocate which are for allergies and are very expensive.
ETA: We have GHI, but it is a Government Employee plan as well and it would be covered for us as well.

Re: does anyone know WHICH insurance co will cover formula?
We have Aetna and it is covered. There is a law in NY - State Assembly bill 1818A that says your insurance must pay for it. the only exception is if it is a self funded plan. Apria is awesome at handling this. I have all the info - feol free to fm me if you have any questions...

You really have to wait and see what group your plan purchased and see if nutritionals are a covered benefit. You can try to appeal if they're not but it will take a lot to get it covered. We tried with Miranda's Neocate and Alimentum and had no luck because nutrition/feeding was not covered on the plan we had.

exactly!
Also There are 25 bc/bs's across the country and each one is run by someone else, they are not affiliated, they simply share the name and they pay to use the nameYou cannot tell till you get the plan.
You can check to see if your state covers it as a mandate and if you group come sept. is a group which plans under the states mandates.

We had Blue Cross Blue Shield and it was not covered. We now have United Healthcare and they cover the Neocate for us.

Re: does anyone know WHICH insurance co will cover formula?
I have Aetna for my health insurance but our prescriptions are under medcohealth. My DD is on Alimentum for reflux and they said they do not cover it. I am going to look into Apria and ask my doctor to see if he has heard about that law

Like the others said, if it is in your plan and is medically necessary. They don't cover regular formula.

My company is based in Massachusettes so my plan is actually BC/BS of Mass... I don't think it matters.

If it's medically necessary they will cover some formula's. I know with my plan I can look it up on there website.

Re: does anyone know WHICH insurance co will cover formula?
WE HAVE GHI (MY HUSBAND IS A NYC TEACHER). THEY COVERED NEOCATE AFTER BEING DENIED FOR 2 MONTHS. THEY NOW COVER NUTRAMIGEN WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM AND FOR ONLY A CO-PAY EACH MONTH. GHI ALSO REFUNDED SOME OF THE OUT OF POCKET COST FOR THE NEOCATE. KEEP YOUR RECEPITS.
