Does anyone mows there own lawn anymore?

I never seen so many lawn mowing businesses all over the neighborhood.... And I bet it's not cheap...

my brother is a landscaper, even though the times are tough people still use him. I for one love mowing the lawn but it's much easier to have his guys come do it for me.

My DH is obsessed with our lawn, for real.

Last year we had a random drive-by mowing and he was MAD that someone touched his lawn.

I was more freaked that some random people were on our property.

We do. We don't feel a need to spend that much money for just an hour of effort a week. I'd rather use that money towards a vacation! Plus, it's good exercise!


ETA: I do the mowing, my husband does the edging and all of the other various leftover tasks while I finish mowing. (Weeding, general lawn cleanup, etc)

If I ever get the lawn mower out of the box, we will mow ourselves.

But we have less than a 1/4 acre and no children.

I do. I have a hard time paying someone to walk back and forth on my grass for an hour when I can do it myself. It's a self-propelled walk-behind mower, so it isn't a lot of work. Plus, I could use the exercise....

Well, we just moved to our house last week, but once we buy all the stuff needed to take care of our long-neglected lawn, DH will be maintaining it, with my help.

I have a simple (and kinda silly ) rule of thumb when it comes to home improvements and maintenance.

I feel my time is worth $25 an hour so if I can find somebody to work for less than that, i'm paying someone else to do it.

What that means is, it would take me at least two hours to mow my lawn (especially with the edging). I think my time in general is worth at least $25 an hour. So this job would cost $50 bucks if I did it myself.

I can easily get someone to cut the lawn for $25-30. Since it costs almost half to pay someone to cut the lawn, they do it.

Now if I want to say change my heating thermostat to something digital which I just did, that would have cost me a good $200-300 to bring an electrician in. I was able to do this in two hours so I did it myself.

Basic lawn maintenance is so cheap, I think that's why you see so many trucks.

DH and I were just saying this today!

DH loves taking care of the lawn and outside. He would NEVER pay anyone to mow it.

Nope. We've had landscapers for 10 years. Not ONE person in this town mows their own lawn....I'm serious.

I resent any implications that people who do not mow their own grass are lazy!

my lot is a half acre, and brookhaven does not pick up grass clippings. So even if we mowed ourselves, which would take about 2 hours, we have nowhere to put the clippings. I am allergic to grass, so we dont have the option of just leaving them on the grass.

I already work 50+ hours a week. to spend 2 hours at least each week pushing a lawnmower doesnt sound like a good use of my limited free time.

I do plant my own flowers though.

we do, DH does the lawn and edging and I 'own' the flower beds
the initial clean up of the season is so much work though
We are finding that each year the upkeep is less and less because of work we did the previous year, if u kwim
