Does anyone NOT have a retirement plan in place?
.....and does it scare you?
DH is self employed. I am the only employee in the company I work for. Neither of us has a pension or 401k. DH buys ibonds as a savings plan. I just bank my money in savings account - I know boring and safe and getting me nowhere.
Reading the other thread on here about savings plans made me and I need a plan.
Anyone else in the same boat and if so do you have a plan of attack in the near future?

We don't really have a plan at the moment...right now we are concentrating all our efforts on buying a house. That's as far into the future as I want to think right now. Once we're in and settled we will discuss how to rebuild our savings and save for the future.

Why don't you look into a Uni 401k plan or SEP? That way, you are saving pretax in a tax qualified account. Both can be set up rather inexpensively and the tax benefits now would outweigh anything else that might be out there for you guys.

DH and yes it bothers me actually. Every time i bring it up he changes the subject and avoids going through the motions to do it. I even switched all the health insurance to my plan so he can take that money per month and put it aside he is 37!
I think the thing is we barely exist as is with the mortgage and hope that things will get better so we can start pushing money into something.

DH & I have a small mutual fund...it's not a conventional retirement fund, but atleast its something for now while we try and save for a house.
My job does not provide a 401k, but DH's will after i think 2 years of employment...only 19 more months to go...

we only have my 401k from work. But if I ever leave or lose this job, there is the possibility that I'd work somewhere without the 401k. Thats a little scarey, but not the end of the world. it is def nice knowing we have it!

I started working for my company when I was 20 years old, I had to wait a year to set up a 401k. As soon as I hit a year my supervisor made me do it. He said that he regrets not doing when he was young like me.
I'm glad he did that for me. I already have a nice chunk in there. Not nearly enough to retire on, but its a really good start!

We do not. And it bothers me. We planned to do it after we bought the house but then our pays were cut dramatically and it's been very tough lately. We have life insurance and savings, but we need to get on the retirement asap. Hoping in the New Year. It all just confuses me and neither one of our jobs offers it.

I have a 401K and a pension. I put in the max the company matches which isn't much. FH has a 401K, but I'm not sure he's actually contributing now. I think he's going to start after the wedding. After the wedding, we'll hopefully add to that with a Roth or something.
I don't make much money, but I think it's very cool that I get a 401K and a pension
