Does anyone use a deodorant WITHOUT aluminum in it that actually works?
I was having issues with deodorant for awhile, my underarms were always irritated and I didn't know why. I did a little research and came to find that I was probably having a reaction to the aluminum that is the active ingredient in all deodorants it seems. I've been searching for one without it and I'm having a really hard time finding one that actually works! I don't want to have irritated skin, but at the same time I would really not like to smell! help!

Secret original and Dove seem to be mild. Secret does have aluminum but I only know that I have had severe reactions to others and this one is usually okay. I think there is a lower % of aluminum. I am not sure what Dove contains. I never really figured out what was causing my reactions. I went for testing for chemical allergies but nothing was conclusive.

I have sensitive skin and I use Dove sensitive skin. it does not give me reaction. You could be reacting to the scents in other deodorants.
Tom's has no aluminum but I'm not sure how well it works. I've used t occasionally but not in summer.

Maybe I'll try the Dove one, I was using the Arm and Hammer natural, but I hate the scent and it does not hold up when its really hot. The only good thing is that I'm not itchy anymore.

Howard Stern swears by Natures Gate deodorant. You can order it online and read reviews.

I use Dove and it has a lower percentage than others I've seen.

Re: Does anyone use a deodorant WITHOUT aluminum in it that actually works?
Not sure if this is your issue but whenever it gets warm, I would get irritated and itchy under my arms. Like every year, and could never figure out what it was. Did some googling and figured out it may be a yeast infection. So I tried an antifungal (Lotrimin) and amazingly it worked!!
I went back to deoderant again, Secret, etc, and kept getting irritated and itchy again. Well I figured it out...since they don't work that well, I must sweat too much and develop a fungal infection.
I wound up trying something new...it's Arrid XXX cream, in a container/tub. I can only find it in CVS. It has different ingredients than regular deodorant (but yes, still has aluminum).
Well that solved my problem. So it wasn't that I was allergic to regular deodorant, but that it wasn't working well enough so I needed something stronger. I looked at all the deodorants and most have the same ingredients, besides this Arrid XXX cream and that has the same ingredients as Certain Dry (which I have tried and it irritated me, too strong).
Just wanted to throw this out there, since I struggled for years on and off with figuring out what was going on. I dont know what I will do if I can't find this deodorant anymore! It works so great and not irritating in the least.

This also comes in a solid - all you do is run it under water and then use it. It works great for odor but does not work for perspiration.

I've always had bad luck with Tom's. One of the ingredients makes my skin peel :o
