I like it, bc I do not have to take my stuff out of my cart, then rebag. DH likes it bc he feels important-I let him scan.
When you scan your card, you agree to random checks of your order. So if you get to the checkout, and they want to, the system will randomly pick you, and you will have to re-scan your entire order.

I haven't used it yet but I took the brochure home and it says they will randomly stop people to check through their items.
I definitely want to try it one of these days.

Re: does anyone use that new thing at stop and shop where you go around and scan your order??
They do random audits on people to kind of keep it honest. I'm sure they still get a lot of loss.. but unless they have folks wandering out with thousands in groceries each morning, the loss is covered under normal shrink budget.
I like it.. it makes my trips generally MUCH quicker because I just scan and bag and then I pay and leave. I don't have to wait on line while the cashier cashes out or tries to find the price on a box of raisins. I don't have to stand behind the lady with 70000 coupons as she argues over 10 cents on a product that she didn't pick up. I don't have to say "no" 40 bajillion times to my kid as he tries to pick up various candies, chips and balloons on check out and I don't have to listen to Molly Chatty on her cell phone for 20 minutes while I wait to get rung up.
ETA: My sister works at S&S and once remotely 'broke' the checkout because she noticed a woman with TONS of groceries and a tab of less than $100 dollars. The lady had to check out at courtesy (they made it as though they needed to fix the machine and that they'd speed her through) - her groceries were over $300!!

So you do all the work and then have to redo it anyway. Ya, reason enough for me not to do it.
I like the self checkout lines though.

I have used it and found it to be helpful. Gets you out of the store much quicker.

Re: does anyone use that new thing at stop and shop where you go around and scan your order??
I LOVE it. I am sure some people steal but they do random audits. I had one done once. Basically when you go to check out, if you are flagged for a random audit, they come over and scan some of the stuff in your cart to make sure you scanned it and didn't just steal it. I'm not sure how much of a deterant that is, but I have to say I actually enjoy food shopping now. It's like a fun game and you get in and out SOOO quick!

If you get picked for a random audit a manager comes over with a scan gun and just randomly scans some stuff in your bags.. you don't have to do anything. I had one once- it only took a few minutes...

I like it for small shopping trips and ones when the kids aren't with me because they have a tendency to reach for things and put them in the cart.

I use it and LOVE IT. I have also been audited and they don't remove anything from your bags. They just randomly check items to make sure they are scanned. There is some way that the scanner can tell if you have items in your basket that aren't scanned.

Re: does anyone use that new thing at stop and shop where you go around and scan your order??
I'm hating Stop & Shop more and more. I tried the scan guns once and found it more of a pain to have to bag stuff in the aisles. I didn't like trying to get the heavy stuff in first, squishable stuff on top or in separate bags. I felt like it slowed me down in and aisles. Then, when I got to the front and tried to go through self-check out to leave, I still had to wait in a line and then the system didn't work and I had to call over the self-check attendant (who 9 times out of 10 is not paying attention to their job). Overall, I find that S&S is changing the mix of merchandise, getting rid of some of my favorites, and the checkout lines keep getting longer and longer. Only a couple of attended lines open, the self-checkout always have lines and are slow since you can't start your order until the person before you has bagged theirs... I used to like S&S but it's just a PITA to shop there now.

Re: does anyone use that new thing at stop and shop where you go around and scan your order??
I HAVE to use it when DH and I go shopping he is such a child and loves doing it. When I go alone (which is rare) I don't usually go to that store so I don't have the option to use it. I like it, its easy to use, and it tells you about sales and stuff as you go through the store. I also like that you can see your running total, as you go.
My DH saw a women with 2 kids in her cart using it, and bagging everything and she would scan the item and throw it in the bag, not press ok or accept or whatever it is, so she had not a single thing on her total, yet a cart full of groceries. I told DH to tell her, but he didn't want to get involved. that must have stunk when she went to leave and she realized she didn't scan anything. She seemed like she was in a rush.

I really love it bc it keeps a tally on what I'm spending. It really helps me to not add random things to my cart that aren't on my list.

That is so odd...when I go, I think I just scan and bag too- I don't think you have to press OK or accept. I remember just scanning it, it beeps to let you know it got it, and the price shows up and that's it. I could be mistaken but I thought that was how it worked....

I've used it, I like it. DD LOVES it, she scans stuff as I put it into the cart. I've never been randomly audited.

that is the way it works...when it beeps it adds it to your order...no need to press any other buttons on the scanner....

I use it almost every time & always get behind someone with it also.
I did have a random check once. Not sure if people are stealing but I could easily see them walking off with that thing.

Yup. No need to press another button. It also makes noise to alert for sales prices.

I use it weekly! Let me tell you, food shopping has become easier & less time consuming. Waiting on the lines & having people bag things in the wrong bags (I use the reusables), was more annoying then anything.

I use it every week. It's a pleasure packing as I go along into my resusable bags and separating the frozen from the rest, etc.. I love flying through the checkout at the end.

I do love the convienence of it. And I definitely LOVE looking at how much I've spent aisle by aisle- so I feel like it helps curb our spending.
However, the carts are not big enough to hold the bags that I bring.

Not all of the stores are getting it. They don't have it at the one my mom shops in either.
