Does anyone use their kitchen island as main eating area in kitchen? UPDATED W/PICS OF KITCHEN

I dont even know if I asked the question right What I mean is, rather than a kitchen table, does anyone use their kitchen island & stools as their kitchen "table"?

Right now our island is 2 levels. The higher level is where the cooktop is. The lower level (which is attached) is set up like a table with regular chairs. We are looking into granite and I dont know whether to keep it as it is now or make it a one level island and use barstools. We dont have a kitchen table b/c where the 2nd level is, is where a table would go, KWIM? I guess it would probably be easier for me to post pics but I am at work right now and dont have the pictures on this computer.


ETA: These are pictures from the old owners. We have taken down the yellow wallpaper. We are probably going to go with the black galaxy )which has the gold specks in it) and a tile backsplash.

Yes!

Everytime we eat and even if we have family over, anything under 5 ppl, we eat there as well.

it just convenient to eat there.

I dont have a kitchen table either, the dining room is right next to island and we still dont make it over there.

I also wheel over highchair to island. When she gets older, things may change.

We only have a set up for 2 people, but its counter level. I will say a negative of counter level/bar level tables, I would never feel comfortable putting DD in a booster seat on the bar chairs...

We do, because we don't have a kitchen big enough to fit a table in.... and even though my dining room isn't super formal, I'm not about to let my 2 and 4 year old eat in it every day to mess it up. We use our dining room table a lot, but for 90% of meals, I just use my kitchen counter set-up.

No,my island is not set up that way. I have my sink, dishwasher and cabinets and it's in the middle of my kitchen. In my first house we had an L shaped type penisula that was set up for eating.

we would but we still need to find stools for the counter.

I like the island, but I think I would prefer it counter height. Also, you could change the shape and make it round or a hexagon!
