Re: Does anyone want to talk about anything else?
Angela Merkel leaving office is going to be significant. She's been a staple in the world stage for 16 years. From what I've read about Olaf Scholz, there won't be a drastic change in how Germany is running, but of course, with any new leader, things will be different.

She’s already gone since December.
The new coalition is interesting: SPD, FDP, and the Greens.
Political parties in Germany
Some things have changed (like the energy crisis), but that was due to things agreed on in the past. But it’s nice to see Angela gone (CDU/CSU). I live in CSU country (like Texas), but at least they aren’t that conservative.
ETA: the new government has mentioned allowing dual citizenship more easily, probably due to Brexit. This is good for me because in order to get citizenship here now, I would have to give up my US citizenship. I would give it up but the US wants $4000 to give up citizenship, which is a scam, IMO. So I’ll just keep it and get the stimulus and social security payments and file my taxes. I never make above the threshold, so I never have to pay taxes, but I sure as hell am not paying $4000 to renounce citizenship.

That's crazy! $4k to not keep your US citizenship?

I haven't been following Brexit closely, but it seems like both the UK and the EU are hurting because of it. Not surprised by that. I thought it was a bad idea, but not being in Europe, I don't know the nuances of what's going on there.

I would like to know why people don't make the right on red when they are allowed. I mean I get it at some intersections it can be tough, but I mean there are no cars coming for miles and people don't turn.

are they maybe at lights where there are cameras. I notice people are hesitant to do them when they have the red light cameras. I am one of those I do make the turn but I make sure to wait about 10-20 seconds before trying so I dont get a ticket!

I don’t make rights on red when I visit LI because it is illegal where I normally drive, so I just forget. They also have very few stop signs here, so I get annoyed by all the stop signs on LI.

Can’t make a right on red in the city unless posted. Love that I live in Nassau where I can. All those seconds/minutes lost while waiting for the light to change.

Well, this is where they need to improve efficiency. Here the lights go from red to yellow to green. The yellow gives you time to prepare to go, so by green everyone is moving.

Over here, too many people blow through the red light, so if you take off immediately when it turns green, there's a good chance you'll get hit by someone going through the red.
